Hi @montereybayaquarium.org, I've loved your kelp exhibit since I was a child. I have the opportunity to design an interactive kelp forest installation made of felt, and wanted to ask if it would be wildly inaccurate to depict giant kelp, bull kelp, and sugar kelp all growing in the same area.

Just spent my entire 1.5 hour bus ride chatting with a Taiwanese student who is visiting LA before starting grad school to become an English language translator. She was really sweet and I genuinely thought she'd been living in the US for a while based on her accent. Great way to end the con! :)

Whoa, bluesky is doing something weird with the colors there (might be a cmyk file instead of rgb?) so here's a more accurate version for screens. At least the pattern layout on the website looks closer to the real deck!

There is a yellow border of rope, knots, and tassels. The rope frays at the top and purple threads converge in the center where the drop spindle is spinning the fibers together. The thread then winds around the shaft of the spindle, then around the shuttle where it turns into a ribbon. It crosses over to pass between the blades of the scissors and then turn back into a thread of decorative knots as it coils around the scissor handle. The ribbon is bisected into two parts where it passes between the blades.

During the 1st Trump admin, people squeezed out some privileged mouth-farts about what great art we’d get out of it, because art thrives on rebellion or whatever. I always thought traumatizing a generation of artists would do the opposite. Watching that halftime show...it’s not just the trauma 🧵
