WHY?
Visa, Mastercard, Stripe and Paypal have been censoring free speech and legal business on the internet for TOO LONG. Their most recent targets are Steam and Itch.io, but they have also been pressuring websites like Pixiv, Patreon, Fansly, Onlyfans and MORE for years, applying draconian standards for what kind of adult/pornographic content platiorms and their users can host and sell.

If we as consumers and creators want to regain ground on this issue, we have to make our voice heard.

HOW?
BOMBARD THEM WITH PHONE CALLS
Collective Shout, the organization that lobbied to have Steam and Itch.io change their TOS, did so with only around 1000 phone calls. Visa and MC have backed down from pressuring Onlyians to remove adult content entirely due to public backlash. Clogging their phone lines for an extended perlou, over a mont at the absolute least, will almost gudrantee that these compantes will at least have to pay attention to the backlash. this list is not exhaustive. but some contact points for the 4 targets are:

1. VISA:
(US + Can): +1 [8001-847-2911
US option selection for operator: 1-1-2 or 1-1-3

2. MASTERCARD:
(US): +1 (8001-307-7309
US option selection for operator: 1-1-2-2-2-1
Phone (outside US): 1-636-722-7111

3. STRIPE:
(Headquarters): +118881 963-8955
(France): +33 805-11-19-67
Stripe: complaints@stripe.com

4. PAYPAL:
(US): +1 (888)-221-1161
(outside US): 1-402-935-2050
Customer Service: +1 (877)-569-1116

TRY TO HIT ALL 4 TARGETS PER DAY

This is only going to have an effect if as many people possible call EVERY DAY for as long as possible.

THIS IS A MARATHON, NOT A RACE.

If you can, it is also a good idea to try to spread the word to organizations and groups that can either actively combat these huge companies legally, or can spread news, in a manner supportive of this movement, more effectively than your average person.

example of orgs:
ACLU
CCLA
govt representatives

exanple of spreading the news:
newspapers
special interest pubs
streamers

That is awful! If you're looking for a gdocs-like replacement, Ellipsus @ellipsus-writes is an explicitly queer friendly, anti-AI equivalent with online syncing and sharing - I've been using it for almost a year now as a replacement for gdocs and absolutely love it. They are pro-fanfic, so much so that they have a dedicated "export to Ao3" option that preserves all your formatting. They don't have an app (yet) but you can add it to your home screen via your mobile browser if you want.

Itch's new content policy is: 1. We can't tell you what violates the rules. 2. If you violate the rules, we take all your money. Not just the money from that work, ALL your money from EVERYTHING you've ever made. I don't care how much of a smol bean Itch is, this is not a viable platform.

It’s almost impossible to come up with an exhaustive list of unacceptable products to sell, so often we have to take content reviews one at a time. If an issue arises with your account that isn’t already covered by our policy, then we will contact you and share what options you may have.

If you've collected money while in violation of terms, we may be forced to refund or freeze all pending transactions, as accounts that are in violation of our terms are not eligible for payouts.

Itchio info from my discord of what we know so far

<@&1043303120299622421>
Hey folks it’s come to our attention itchio has started a crack down on nsfw content, if you have books listed I would check to see if yours are shadow banned, or if they’ve been deleted.
It may be a good idea to remind your readers if they’ve purchased something from you not allowed on other sites to download it now.
Editing this to say also not trying to fear monger!! We’re seeing some books gone already so just wanna give yall a heads up 🫶

<@&1043303120299622421>
To turn your revenue share on Itchio to 0%
>Payouts
>Seller settings
>Revenue share

Edited to note it will make your dashboard grayscale

Editing to add your ACCOUNT overall can be marked as adult and this will still result in ALL your content being removed

Edited to add some books are unsearchable due to lgbtq tag

Editing to say this is hard to do on mobile and to do on desktop

Editing to say it is recommended to withdraw your balance now just in case

Edit: current alternative

subscribestar.adult, payhip, smashwords, your own website.

Editing to add how to find your items

it appears if you have purchased something that has now been "suspended" you can still download it by finding it in your library and clicking "download"

For 99% of people, the only advice you need on writing your book is "actually write it." Like, there's loads of advice I can give you on it once you've done that. But for the most part "stop fantasizing about it and put words on a damn page" is the correct answer.
