Babylon 5 is pretty relevant today

emfedex @emfedex.bsky.social · 15/07/2025

i’ve been watching through Babylon 5 lately and it’s been great. i’m constantly pleased with how far it will go in ways many other sci-fi shows didn’t really have the courage to do up to this era. a lot of themes in this show are very relevant to current events…

been looking forward to seeing this for a while - finally got the crew together. pretty amazing stuff work of art that uses the horror genre to explore themes of cultural appropriation and racism while providing a sincere portrait of proud community struggling to persevere against oppression.

“horror of dracula” (1958) the trinity of lee, fisher and cushing return to make this natural choice to follow up “frankenstein”, the film that would make christopher lee a horror icon and a star.

emfedex @emfedex.bsky.social · 23/12/2024

“the curse of frankenstein” (1957) the paradigm shift not only for hammer but for genre films in general. it can not be overstated how significant this film was at the time of release or how this was so unprecedented that it completely changed the way all genre films would be made in the future/more

110

emfedex @emfedex.bsky.social · 22/12/2024

“quatermass II” (1957) one part provocative, nail-biting suspense government conspiracy and the other a bombastic giant monster flick. quatermass stumbles onto a top secret facility whose cover is manufacturing a new synthetic food product with way too advanced tech than they should have (continued)

100

emfedex @emfedex.bsky.social · 21/12/2024

as doubtful as it seems, what if i were to tell you there was in fact a thoughtful & philosophical film about the abominable snowman? by taking the creative high road, hammer is able to tell a charming allegorical story about evolution, predestination vs free will & the trappings of capitalism..more

110

emfedex @emfedex.bsky.social · 21/12/2024

“x… the unknown” (1956) is the defacto sequel to quatermass sans the titular character. released two years before “the blob” this follow up to “quatermass” moves the threat from interstellar to a similarly amorphous and ancient power from deep within the earth. 1/3

110

emfedex @emfedex.bsky.social · 20/12/2024

an astronaut returns to earth as a trojan horse for a plant based invasion. excellent acting, cool period creature mutation effects and thematic commentary on concerns over the change in britain’s national identity during the cold war elevate this film over the average 50s creature feature.
