Will post more photos on the press account, but our first ever signing was a huge success. A friend brought Soph flowers! And another had a get-together after with gluten-free cake. Just lovely and so happy people came out to get Mara and listen to Soph read. Very proud.

Played FFXIV for 8 years, and now I'm back! New part of the world for me and new character (still a Lalafell, of course). It's pretty fun doing MSQ w/ so many others who seem to have just joined thanks to it coming out for Switch 2! But I'm actually playing on my Steamdeck with a monitor.

I love that my wife reads to me most evenings. 🥰 About a week ago we started "Name Her Holy" by @clericofthevoid.bsky.social (One of my fav books I read last year). Soph's tried out some voices for some of the characters. She's so dang cute. 😍

Update: Soph is back in the cage. You have 48 hours to help her get out by pre-ordering Mara before the price goes up. Make good choices. prismata-press.itch.io/mara

Soph, a woman in glasses and a purple jumper, believes she is inside this cage and without enough pre-orders I am going to let it stay that way.

Getting a lot from this book, Exile. Exactly what happened to me after I spent 2002–03 teaching in China. Back in the states I had reverse culture shock so badly. Developed anxiety attacks and spent the next 22 years trying to leave for good. I never felt it was my home, even as a kid.

When in 2003 it was once again deemed existentially imperative to go after Saddam, I was in my senior year at Columbia University in New York and had settled into a daily routine of debilitating panic attacks, having returned from junior year abroad at the University of Rome to find that my homeland resembled a large-scale lab experiment on how to best crush the human soul.

A year ago was the summer solstice. I corrected my birth certificate to X. Spent an afternoon in the sun at the woodhenge and big mound at Cahokia. Magic with friends. A tumultuous six months followed. Now, it was the winter solstice here yesterday. A life turned right-side round. Magic again.
