MAGAt in-laws get their knickers in a twist when my family wear masks. (I’ve got a medically complex kid & it’s respiratory season.) But when ICE agents wear masks to terrorize, beat, and kill people they’re all: “Well, they have to wear masks for their protection.” 🙄 🤦🏼‍♀️

Covid outbreak at local nursing home. 3 residents at first, now 6. One person has moved to hospice care. Staff are wearing, you guessed it . . . baggy blues. Ridiculous. I would be beyond pissed if my loved one lived there. It has to be willful negligence or something at this point, right?!

Called 5 places to try to find a child COVID vaccine in rural MN where supposedly there are no limitations as to who can get one. Finally found a grocery store pharmacy 50 minutes away that’s willing to order some for next week. I have high risk kid who should’ve had it already. Ridiculous.

Milhoan is now indicating that since COVID19 vaccines don’t always prevent infection, it’s not effective. The COVID19 vaccine prevents hospitalization and death very effectively. One might argue that this is an important fact.

Week 3 of school & 2 of 4 kids are sick. Covid negative so far for both, and neg strep for one. This sucks. We do everything we can & still end up with sick kids — and that means extra precautions around my high risk kiddo. It’s been a bumpy start to the year even outside of this. I’m tired.

Back to school comes with an astronomical level of stress when you are parent to a medically complex kid. There’s so much illness & nobody wears a mask when actively ill and unable to stay home. So my kid (& siblings to protect her) wears one all the time at school. And that super sucks.

Parenting a child w/ a disability comes with its share of amazing, wonderful things. Big picture: positives far outweigh negatives. Today, however, it comes with significant extra stress and what feels like the beginning of caregiver burnout. It’s frowned upon to say the 2nd part out loud though.

The truth is, we never, in any systematic way, made classrooms safe, like ensuring upgraded ventilation and air purification in schools. And COVID ripped through classrooms. Kids fueled household spread and hundreds of thousands of them lost caregivers to the virus. But we don’t talk about THAT.

I believe it. I have a kid with Flu B right now. 4 kids in his class of 20 had Flu B last week and 6 the week before had either flu B or strep. Both are spreading like wildfire around the building. About half of current flu cases also have strep throat with it per the school nurse. 😩 😷

Parent of a school aged child tested positive for COVID on Saturday (per his relative, a friend of mine). The parent was in the crowded hallway, visiting with a teacher & other students at drop off. No mask. Right across the hall from my immune compromised kid. Sometimes I hate everything.
