I just had to turn down a request to play The Stage Manager in an area production of Our Town. Declining opportunities feels weird. The director is an old friend and the actor he cast had to bow out for health reasons. So, he reached out to me, lest he ends up having to take on the role himself.

Almer Thompson does not exist without his cows, apparently. Notes on searching online indexes: Try different word combos. Don't trust short searches.

You know, the Horizon video games actually paint a pretty rosy picture of our technological future. Forget the giant death robots; Imagine common communication* devices that will continue functioning after a thousand years of continual use. Awesome! *Mostly text & audio, no memes for some reason.

While it is nice that Minnesota Public Radio meteorologists occasionally reference sites across the border in North Dakota, I was compelled to fill out a feedback form this morning after Ben or Sven (whichever) referred to PEM-bin-uh as Pem-BEAN-ah. At least he didn't pronounce it like Eh-DINE-uh.

I finally watched Matinee (1993) today, with my wife. What a refreshing bit of writing. Especially for the characters. There were many times where I felt a reflexive cringe, anticipating a cliched behavior or reaction, but incredibly little qualified.

I saw the Whalefall trailer and felt a brief resurgence in my hopes for humanity. Original story (based on a book, but still). Wild premise. Takes itself absurdly seriously. Could be a huge hit. I'm going to say here and now that it might be the next Godzilla. (The next first Godzilla. IFKYK)

I'd have to say the whole Atari 2600 system set the path. Favorites were Moon Patrol, Jr. Pac-Man, Galaga, Asteroids, Missile Command, River Raid, and Yar's Revenge (boy, a lot of space games). From there Nintendo continued the habit.

As an American political historian, I can confirm that this Congress has been "almost unmatched in history" in several categories -- sad abdication of its war powers, craven surrender of the power of the purse, weird refusal to conduct meaningful oversight, and an utter failure to pass actual laws.

You know, maybe if Trump had gotten the Nobel Peace Prize, which he so clearly desired, he wouldn't be so bent on starting, prolonging, and not ending wars. Ours or others'. That's a rational hypothesis, right?

As cassette tapes are fashionable again, I'm finding I wouldn't mind having a portable player again. Some of the best money I ever spent as a teenager was on a Sony Sports Walkman, just like the image here. It latched tight, had long battery life, and was just satisfying overall.

More stocks traded than ALL of Congress combined. With values impacted by his decisions and Federal contracts. Can we move on from "corruption" equaling "business sense" to so many people? What kind of country upholds a "ethics are for losers" mentality?

Despite one being solidly Midwestern and the other an upper East Coast guy, consider how much Jordan Klepper sounds like H. Jon Benjamin. In a pinch, I think Klepper could sub in for Bob Belcher. Bob's Burgers has already done a fan art episode. I'd kinda like to a voice actor swap for one.

I dreamed last night that I had a girlfriend and we were with her older sister. The sister was smoking weed and while taking a huge hit turned into my wife, who ended up having a coughing fit, soon-after throwing up. I woke at that point and the clock read 4:20. I haven't begun to process this.

Black text on white page that reads:

In 1882, 10,000 workers marched up Broadway in the first-ever Labor Day parade. Led by democratic socialists and organized by New York’s unions, they rallied the movement that went on to win us weekends, safety standards, overtime pay, a minimum wage, and social security.

None of those victories were guaranteed. And none are permanent.

We created the first-in-the-nation Office of Worker Power to put the full weight of City Hall behind the people who keep New York running. On Labor Day, we honor the workers who came before us by fighting for the workers who come next.

Happy Labor Day, New York. The future of worker power is ours to build. Learn more at nyc.gov/workerpower.

What song most evokes for you the feeling of your teen years approaching? High school looms. Social constructs intrude. Emotional complexity bloom. For me, it is Sweet Child Of Mine by Guns N' Roses, which came out when I was 12. Iconic in my mind, an early shaper of adult romantic notions.
