Her body cold, my tears pleading to the flames, begging their warmth be spread to her lifeless soul or strip me of my own. I held her in my arms, waiting for an answer, waiting for her eyes to reopen. But they wouldn’t, they wouldn’t. She would not awaken. The abundance of warmth could do nothing to revive her. She had fallen; how? How could the lifeless, cold touch of death be present in this inferno? I reject this entity of fire, of existence itself. Life is warm, soothing, and welcoming. How then can this magnitude of heat be so destructive and not bustling with life?

Outside!
I've gotten outside and on my skates everyday this past week. Most
weekends were spent at the skating rink wben I was a teenager but I never learned tricks or anything other than skating in a circle. Now that my 8 year old is learning I figured now would be a great time to up my own skills. I'm having a blast!

Despite us both living there, I didn't interact with Achilles much at all at first. In truth, I limited my interactions to as few people as possible. I hadn't felt much of anything since I learned of my exile. I simply went where I was told and went through the motions instilled in me since birth. I was no longer a prince, but I still behaved as one around those in charge of me. Around my peers, I remained mostly silent, and soon enough, they left me alone. I stayed like that for weeks after arriving in Phithia, not feeling much of anything once the guilt of causing a death had faded. Numb to anger and worry, curiosity, even sadness evaded me. I might have continued like that, existing only as a shell of a person, if it hadn't been for Achilles. He invoked the first true emotion from me since I had washed Clysonymus' blood off my hands.

"Don't say such things, my son. If you kill Hector, your own death will not be long after! Your fate fast runs out after he is slain," my mother pleaded, alarmed at my sudden ferocity. She hoped to change my decision, but it was of no use. I found my own death a perfectly acceptable cost. I loved Patroclus as much as my own life, and without him, my continued existence was of little value to me. I could see then that from the moment my Patroclus was slain, my only purpose in life had become avenging him. For how could I meet him in the afterlife without having done so?

I just finished reading Son of Nobody by Yann Martel. It’s a well written and captivating read but gods damn was I frustrated with Harlow for the majority of the book! I’md recommend reading the synopsis first because it took me a minute to realize it wasn’t part autobiographical!

I got inspiration for one scene when I spotted a Yarrow plant at the park. Yarrow’s latin name is Achillea millefolium. It’s known to help stop bleeding despite being named after Achilles, a man who caused so many to bleed out. #LgbtqWriteAThon
