Not sure that there's a better illustration for the relationship between capitalism and the commons than searching for "Wikipedia" in the app store and being presented, above the Wikipedia app, with a paid knock-off app that seeks to monetize the volunteer labor that makes Wikipedia possible.
An Apple App Store search for "Wikipedia" features a paid knock off app more prominently than the official Wikipedia app.

There has been a departure from X in many waves since Musk took over in November 2022. Every departure filters the network down to the people who are comfortable with everything he does to amplify hate. Whatever Twitter once was, X Is now just a test for what people are willing to tolerate.

Gee, I wonder why billionaires want to control the encyclopedia. (Kudos to the contributors of this very astute section of Zohran Mamdani's Wikipedia bio.)
Screenshot from https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Zohran_Mamdani&oldid=1320519259 (current as of November 4, 2025)

Mamdani's campaign platform has been considered by outlets to be similar to the policies pursued by former New York mayor Fiorello La Guardia and former U.S. president Franklin Delano Roosevelt.[91][92] The German state broadcaster Deutsche Welle classifies Mamdani's policies as being on the center-left of the global political spectrum.[93] This is unusual in the United States, as the 1950s Second Red Scare and the 1990s Democratic Pivot towards centrist neoliberalism occurred, which shifted the overton window of American politics significantly to the right compared to almost any other liberal democracies, and led national politics to being generally restricted between centrists and the hard right.[93] While misinformation has spread during the 2025 New York mayoral race calling his policies radical or communist, there is a consensus among political scientists that his policies are similar to those pursued by mainstream center-left parties in other developed democracies.[93] Mamdani identifies as being within the democratic socialist tradition.[51][94] He is a member of the Democratic Socialists of America.[60][71] Mamdani has also been called a progressive.[68]

Excerpt:

Martinez alleged that he was once punished for putting his head through the cell bars when he felt sick. He said he was taken to a different cell, where about eight guards beat him and fractured his right arm.

At a certain point, the prisoners decided they'd had enough, so they launched a hunger strike demanding basic human rights, as well as access to lawyers and the press.

But that act of defiance was met with a fierce response, according to Mora. “When we protested, they shot at us point-blank with rubber bullets, point- blank into the cell,” Mora said. “We were like chickens or rats locked up ... and they shot us with rubber bullets.”

Excerpt from article: An attempted hunger strike in April made conditions worse, Gonzalez said. Guards fired rubber bullets and plastic pellets at some detainees. When they asked for a lawyer, he said, guards told them: “That word doesn’t exist here.” At one point, the detainees used sharp iron pipes to cut themselves and write messages in their blood on white sheets as an act of protest, Suarez said. “We are not terrorists,” the messages read. “We are migrants.”
