"Ignoring the slop" cannot be done and it doesn't help. These reports created with the help of AIs point out actual problems, and sometimes vulnerabilities. Ignoring real vulnerabilities because they were found by AI does not make users safe and secure. It makes them vulnerable. We don't want […]

@hfalcke Reverse-chronological is a good default because it is legible, but users should have choices, and the platforms should be built to make those choices maximally legible as well.

@everton137 I think we need many such venues that broaden the conversation beyond the folks who are already on the open social web, absolutely. There are so many civil society success stories that could be shared in such a context.

The #Notion AI icon gives serious Clippy vibes, blinking and rolling its eyes while you work. It is substantially actually one of the better integrations I have seen, but I really do not get why we have to keep turning everything into Microsoft Bob. At least give me a doggo if you do that.

I like #Slack more than I do many other closed source work apps, but it has to have one of the worst menu hierarchies ever built. There are half a dozen poorly differentiated menu structures (app-wide pull down menu, workspace menu, button bar, profile menu, gear icon, various "+" and "new" […]

@kleb I have mixed feelings about it. Honestly, I do not need a watermark to recognize slop at this point, and I think most people don't -- but probably the people who will be accused of LLM-ing are actually the ones who at least made some effort to change the output, who used it for smaller […]

@kleb The watermark does not work by adding extra wording, hidden characters, or additional tokens. It changes how Claude samples next tokens that were already likely to be picked. The claim is that this should not degrade quality because generation is stochastic anyway: SynthID can encode a […]

I don't think I will get used to #Notion's weird UX. Block-level editors seem like a major UX regression to me, not a step forward, putting far more of the cognitive load for basic layout, selection and editing operations on the user.
