Standing like a colossus outside New Zealand's National Stadium is the tribute to the father of All Black Rugby Dave Gallaher. Born in Ireland in 1873 and one of the first settlers to New Zealand, Gallaher would die from his wounds during the Battle of Passchendaele in 1917. He rests in Belgium.

It’s happening! We’re getting ready to relocate to our new home in High Wycombe and will be temporarily closed to onsite visitors from 1 October 2026. This is so we can safely pack up and move all our collections to Denmark St, where we’re looking forward to welcoming you in Spring 2027.
Leatherbound quarter session rolls on archive shelving, the image tinted blue. Text is placed over the background in white font, saying 'Upcoming Temporary Closure'.

#WorldLetterWritingDay. So appreciate the distant cousins that kept so many postcards from back in the day. In this one it would seem someone went off to war and left Grandad with Spot the dog.

My 3xggf was in the Wigan Observer in 1870 having been accused, with several others, of 'keeping dogs without having procured licences'. His case was the only one dismissed. 😄

Given my failed attempt to research on #OnePlaceWednesday due to the granddog sitting recently. I think I've found a solution, so the rest of the day will be spent researching dog licences in the UK and Ireland.

Was thrilled to find this newspaper celebrating Victoria’s diamond jubilee in June 1897. Found in an old antiquities shop for a mere £2.00 has an amazing article about London at the beginning of the Queens reign 1837.
