Five years ago I started working in my first book proposal. Three years ago today, I signed my book deal for Outrage. A year ago it came out in hardback. It’s out now in paperback & is Indie Book Of The Month. Books are not quick things - writing takes time & publishing takes even longer.

Tomorrow Trump will announce the ‘cause’ of autism, something he says is ‘out of control’. He also doesn’t care if (read: that) what he says is wrong. Autism isn’t out of control, but ableism is. Autism isn’t out of control, but eugenics are.

“Indeed, the average amount for those who had incurred costs associated with their transition was £6,573. Facial feminisation surgery (FFS) is not currently available on the NHS, despite being one of the surgeries trans women and trans feminine people most often seek. This is one of the reasons the average surgery costs for trans women and people on the trans feminine spectrum were significantly higher at £17,276, compared to £7,518 for trans masculine respondents. Stories of trans people skipping meals to pay for medication are not uncommon.

Put simply, the system in the UK is such that trans people are being put into a terrifying predicament: either pay or risk your wellbeing and material safety on a day-to-day basis. As a result, it is often only wealthy or otherwise privileged trans people who are able to transition.”

So the UK has slipped from 1st in Europe for LGBTQ+ rights to 22nd. The only countries who dropped a comparable level this year to us are Hungary and Georgia. I’ve been saying it for years - in fact I wrote a whole book on it - but LGBTQ+ people are not safe or stable in the UK.

A Freedom of Information Request made to the Department of Work and Pensions found that 87% of people receiving the PIP daily living component at the standard rate, and 13% of those receiving the enhanced rate, are likely to lose their awards if the proposed changes go ahead.

One fairly low impact bit of activism you can do if you're in the UK is to write to your MP and ask them to ask Streeting why he allows a child abuse network to influence trans healthcare policy. Ideally in the commons where he can't pretend he didn't hear it.

One of the things I wrestle with is whether I'd ever have kids. I'd always said no growing up - and I think it is still probably a no. But I didn't know any queer mums personally until the last two years. It's hard to want something you didn't know was possible

One of my videos ended up on the wrong side of the internet and people have left some vile comments, mostly saying that I am a predator, all lesbians are wife beaters etc. But you will never catch me being offended by being called trans because that’s not an insult.
