Today I looked into #Chinese tone sandhi--when a tone changes relative to the tones before and after it--and voila, things make sense! All my questions are answered! I don't work well with simplifications, and I know this about myself, and yet I still take simplifications as 100% truth 😅

Haha, guess what, it's because I have been relying on the simple explanation: that the tones always sound a certain way and never change. Of course, this is FALSE.

In this case, I kept feeling like I was missing stuff in the tonal contours when I hear #Mandarin words or phrases that I know. Obviously I am the problem here, because I am the baby language learner, right?

Just ran into my most common learning problem: I know nothing, and therefore need the simplest explanations, but these explanations are simplifications, and thus don't tell the whole truth, and thus DO NOT MAKE SENSE TO ME 😂

I also didn't realize her prosthesis is real. I'm that used to productions hiring able-bodied people and doing a green sleeve over the limb. So, you know. More reasons this was really cool.

I'm impressed, because she has a presence on the screen. She holds her own among the cast in both Hawkeye and Echo. So, you know. No acting training? Wow.

Since both of those are identities you want (need) the actor to share in common with the character. And obviously they also need to be a good actor for the role.

Secondly: I could tell from her signing the lead is a native-signer, but I did not know she's Deaf, Native American, and a FIRST-TIME ACTOR. Neither deaf and indigenous folks are given a lot of jobs in Hollywood, so they had to spread the net wide to find the right person.

So. Not only are we wasting both of our time with these appointments, I have to GO IN, which inevitably means a long and painful car ride. I love my neurologist, I really do, which is why I travel so far to see him 😂 (Also, he's the nearest neuro approved by my insurance.)

My neurologist informed me today that insurance will continue to approve my regular treatments for pain (good!) but they want me to have a checkup with him after EVERY treatment. (That is not normal. Like, 1-2x a year, sure.) He then informed me Trump shut down telehealth in Sept.
