The nice thing about athletic shorts is that you can yell "SNOOZE" at your pocket and your phone will actually hear you. If you try that with denim, your jeans will plaintively say, "But we're the worst pants to sleep in!"

Apparently there's been a (small) drop in Wikpedia use. Which is wild. Sure, AI can summarize search results and *hopefully* give you a trustworthy answer, but it takes 2 seconds to click the applicable Wikipedia link and read their summary instead?

The best stock photo sources these days are very specific people who take photos of very specific things. This guy takes pictures of trains. All trains all the time. Only trains. Do I have to worry that one of these photos is AI? Nope. He would never disrespect a real train in that way.

I find myself hoping the int'l community will put pressure on the USA via sanctions. Yes, as a citizen it would likely affect me. But my country is setting a dangerous precedent with what we've done. We can't be allowed to get away without consequences.

The current US military buildup targeting Venezuela is a campaign that often appears to be driven by narratives with only a tangential relationship to actual events taking place.

There is a real chance of a US-Venezuela war — so why does it feel fake?

“Fog of war” is the least of it.

There are so many catch-22s with disability. Like: Disability makes every day different for me: I may wake up in pain, or I may wake up feeling incredible. Disability ALSO makes it hard for me to handle the lack of a routine due to my unpredictable body 😅

They were careless people, Tom and Daisy- they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made. -FS Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby, published 4/10/1925.

Original 1925 jacket cover of The Great Gatsby

The Great Gatsby
Here is a novel, glamorous, ironical, compassionate a marvellous fusion into unity of the curious incongruities of the life of the period which reveals a hero like no other one who could live at no other time and in no other place. But he will live as a character, we surmise, as long as the memory of any reader lasts.
"There was something gorgeous about him, some heightened sensitivity to the promises of life. ..
It was an
extraordinary gift for hope, a romantic readiness such as I have never found in any other person and which it is not likely I shall ever find again?"
It is the story of this Jay Gatsby who came so mysteriously to West Egg, of his sumptuous er-tertainments, and of his love for Daisy Buchanan a story that ranges from pure lyrical beauty to sheer brutal realism, and is infused with a sense of the strangeness of human circumstance in a heedless universe.
It is a magical, living book, blended of irony, romance, and mysticism.
