brass solidarity band performing “stand by me” in the streets of whittier next to alex pretti’s memorial. the crowd started chanting “the people united will never be defeated” so they incorporated it into the song. i love minneapolis

They hoped they could generate that response in Portland, but found dancing frog costumes. They hoped they could generate that response in Minneapolis, and even stepped up their own violence to get it, but they only found a community getting stronger.

While we should be thrilled that Minneapolis effectively killed ICE there with their kindness, we should be ready for them to find a new site that will react as they're clearly hoping we'll react -- with some kind of violence they can use as a pretext for cracking down.

There's been a lot of discussion about the echoes of the civil rights movement in the protests today, with people obviously drawing comparisons between the strategies, tactics and coalitions that were vital then and are still vital now. But this post has me thinking about a different echo ...

He wasn't going to a protest. There was no planned protest. It was people in a neighborhood witnessing & recording public actions by secret police. Gun-at-protest is a lie & distraction.

The House Republicans continue to protect a pedophile sex trafficking ring and all their friends who were involved. Not surprising, but hilarious on a day when the GOP is insisting that a partial release of emails was meant to smear the innocent President. Why keep hiding the files then?

I’d started to wonder whether the Epstein files were a bit of a macguffin, but no no they implicate the President of the United States in a pedophilia ring—and show the entire Republican Party as well as much of the federal government has been baldly covering it up. www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

The new Epstein emails are the most incriminating evidence to date on Trump & Epstein & let's be clear, there has been plenty of incriminating evidence for many years. So, can we stop treating this like a process story and start focusing squarely on the likelihood Trump is a pedophile sex criminal.

This headline is journalistic malpractice. This isn't Epstein "alleging" that Trump knew. This is Epstein and Maxwell discussing - in 2011, long before Trump had political salience - how the FACT that Trump knew might play out Both of them took as a given that this was a fact in a private email

the gerrymandering wars stuff is probably the first time I've really felt legitimately like it all might fall apart. like this is an actual point of no return they're pushing us towards. it's the ruling party declaring they won't allow themselves to lose elections, voters be fucked.

And I think that’s an important point about what’s happened with Trump in the last decade - if you plainly state what he’s doing or has done, people don’t believe you because it sounds cartoonishly evil enough that he would be acting differently if it was true. Now he’s acting differently.

Let me put it this way: No German organization will ever adopt the slogan "Unser Kampf", though "Our Struggle" would be a perfectly anodyne English mantra. Because some words have echoes based on their historical usage by others whether the speaker wants them to or not.
