I personally am also still boycotting Blizzard, as it's part of Xbox, which is the specific boycott target. I think a lot of talented people work there and many of their games are cool, but I would say it is better to not promote Xbox if you can.

I think this is quite true but man, what a bummer. The race to be bigger was bad, but the race to be smaller is increasingly precarious for everyone and deprives us of those middle sized games. I don't know how you fund anything more than 3 people right now. Even that is tough.

I think this also applies to Youtube videos. You can say something very clearly and people in the comments will still misinterpret it. You can't write for people who won't try to understand. It's worth revising your work to make sure you're clear, but beyond that, the reader has to engage.

I'm really enjoying Star Wars Zero Company, but I do kinda wish it had some more XCOM systems in it. I think the panic system in particular adds a lot of surprise to fights, whereas in this game they often play out exactly as you expect. But still, fun game.

A contention I have: the overfocus on teaching GDDs is bad because GDDs are easy to make. It's good to write your ideas down to solidify them and find gaps, but the hard part, in my mind, is seeing if the design works once it's off the page, not writing it down. Design is easy on paper.

AI boosters always say things like "10x engineer" or "100x more productive" but for these things to be true, a 5 year videogame production cycle would have to take 6 months (10x) or less than 3 weeks for 100x. This strikes me as reflecting poorly on the intelligence of people who believe this.

I saw this video a year or two before I played Rhythm Heaven. It contributed to me picking up the Wii entry and becoming a lifelong fan. I find these kind of strange paths to game discovery funny to think about. If I hadn't watched this, would I have gotten into it later? Who can say.

Wish their movies were more like their games for sure. Playing Mario is surprising, delightful, fast paced, and challenging. A movie that kept throwing ideas at you with a sense of fun, wonder and momentum sounds great. I haven't bothered to watch either Mario movie because they sound boring.

All I can think of this Christmas is that last Christmas, between 70,000 and 120,000 Palestinians were alive that have since been murdered by Israel's genocide. Over half of them were children. That's 500 to 1,000 children murdered per week. Or 82 during a four hour Christmas evening.

Even if you create because you want the end product, it's the decisions that you make along the way that make that end product actually meaningful. If you just ask a machine to make something, you don't get the same thing as when you go through the process. Human decisions make art interesting.

I have a pet theory that people want more iterative sequels to games, like we used to get tonnes of in the PS2 era, and that this would be a good strategy for indie devs. That said, I don't know if there's a lot of evidence for it. Might have to have a closer look around.
