Against all odds, Aether Vial is back in Goblins. Also Ringleader in general. I've been on a horrible losing streak and switching it back to old school here has been a boon.

Latest and greatest in Goblins technology after a few leagues trying out different things. Hard to believe some of the numbers here, but I feel good about it.

Some different directions I could see Goblins going with Bolg's Company. I wish I had more time to test games, so I hope some people try any of these lists and let me know how they feel!

NEW BLOG POST! Some thoughts on Christopher Nolan's adaptation of The Odyssey, the historical context of the Bronze Age Collapse, the Sea Peoples, and the legends of the Trojan War, and whether Nolan's movie is "historically accurate" or not, and what that even means.

Did Odysseus Cause the Bronze Age Collapse?

We were all set for The Odyssey to be our summer discourse. Battle lines had been drawn, takes had been prepared. Christopher Nolan’s adaptation of Homer’s 8th century BCE epic poem was…

Classicists criticising The Odyssey film without having watched it is making me cringe inside out. Sorry but it’s a win. It’s accessible, it’s appealing, it’s pissing off right wingers, and it’s explicitly named after a classical text that working class people will now go and pick up. Take the W.

5-0s continue to elude me, but I've been getting a pretty decent swath of 4-1s with Gobs since getting down to this build, of which there are 2 slots I keep fiddling with. Pashalik/Putrid Goblin are my current holds on that slot, but also will try Impulsive Pilferer over Putrid Gob next.

Sorta interesting point on just how fast Legacy has become; there are 0 3 drops that people are actually spending 3 lands to cast other than Barrowgoyf. Legacy used to be basically defined by 3 drops. Goyf is often better than almost all the other options, but you'd think there would be something!

Kare 11 local news just read, in full, this statement from Michael and Susan Pretti, the parents of Alex Pretti. "Please get the truth out about our son."

Statement from Michael and Susan Pretti
Parents of Alex Jeffrey Pretti

“We are heartbroken but also very angry.

Alex was a kindhearted soul who cared deeply for his family and friends and also the American veterans whom he cared for as an ICU nurse at the Minneapolis VA hospital. Alex wanted to make a difference in this world. Unfortunately, he will not be with us to see his impact.

I do not throw around the ‘hero’ term lightly. However, his last thought and act was to protect a woman. The sickening lies told about our son by the administration are reprehensible and disgusting. Alex is clearly not holding a gun when attacked by Trump’s murdering and cowardly ICE thugs. He had his phone in his right hand and his empty left hand is raised above his head while trying to protect the woman ICE just pushed down, all while being pepper sprayed.

Please get the truth out about our son. He was a good man. Thank you.

Since Premodern arrived on MTGO a few days ago, I've been jamming a ton of games with Gobs, and having an absolute blast. It's so much fun to Port + Warchief + Piledriver people, cycle Gempalm Incinerators (and easily connect with Lackey lol). First trophy here!

🏆* (first match win through disconnect). Port Gobs actually doing substantially better than Tombs in this new meta for me. Might come down to extra R source more than anything though. Beat blue Post, GB midrange stuff, UR tempo w/tamiyo, and Omnisneak. Gonna -2 surgical -1 REB for 3 Leylines prob.

061

Aether Vial Enthusiast @eligoings.bsky.social · 17/11/2025

UR + Colorless being the top decks immediately postban just makes sense, but it is inescapably funny that UB reanimator top 8s the first showcase after banning Entomb.

We've now suffered the tragic loss of Tatsuya Nakadai (92), Japanese film icon, and my personal favorite actor. He's the GOAT. I want to go through all of the films of his that I've seen to pay tribute to such a wonderful and talented actor.

Aether Vial Enthusiast @eligoings.bsky.social · 11/11/2025

Alright so didn't really hit any of the top priorities of the format (huge L) but Entomb + Nadu ban decreases Legacy's overall "well that's dumb and immediately wins"-type games, so I can't be TOO bad. Not sure what I'll do with Gobs from here, but I'm at least interested in trying things out now.
