Inspired in part by @rodger.bsky.social: Cricket's halls of power full of awful people and systems that want to convince us that they are the only way forward, eager to shape the game for their own wealth/status/ideology. But they only win if we let them make us miserable.

It's very simple, but requires solidarity (a concept eroded globally in sport/business/politics/life in recent decades). Test this principle. It's possible for the rest of the world to stage a World Cup without India. It's not possible for India to stage a World Cup without the rest of the world.

When I interviewed Spinal Tap and Marty DiBergi this summer, none of them broke character, for the whole hour. Except Rob Reiner, once, losing it when Michael McKean's David St Hubbins talked about minimalism. I didn't use this in the feature and hadn't published any audio, but this is joyful.

Oshane Thomas conceded 22 runs off one legitimate ball in a CPL match on Tuesday: NB, Wd, NB+6, NB+6, 6. This is the most I know of in an authentic case in professional cricket. Roger Telemachus conceded 21 off one ball in the ODI at Johannesburg in 2006: NB+4, NB+1, NB+4, NB+6, 2.

373,531 fans through the turnstiles at the MCG this week for the Boxing Day Test. If Test Cricket is dying, it’s because a group of people have decided it must die in order for their preferred format to thrive to the detriment of all others. This is not the fans choice, that is clear. #AUSvIND #BGT
