Today I went to the woods to get some interesting leaves and do some primary school style nature printing. Undocumented by photography: me nearly getting cut in half as the step of a wooden stile jolted out from under me.

Hi! Robert is quoted talking about the language in this interview linked below. It is Middle English that has been slightly adapted in pronunciation (as you note) to be discernable to a modern audience www.ign.com/articles/rob...

Hopefully it will be screened in Hookland's cinema, a dilapidated 1920s affair whose public service announcements always seem to come true a few days after screening...

The cuts being made to humanities departments at UK HE institutions are reducing the opportunities that students have to study subjects like medieval literature, and amplifying pre-existing inequalities in the education system and beyond. Stop the cuts. #EnglishCreates #UCU #UKHE

On a more personal note: this would not have been possible had I not, many moons ago, studied English Literature at Royal Holloway after attending non-selective state schools. It was at RHUL that I was introduced to Middle English by the fantastic medievalists who taught me.

Well...the 'wulf' is out of the bag. Professor Daniel Wakelin and I were the Middle English consultants for Robert Eggers' upcoming film Werwulf, in UK theatres on January 1st 2027!
An image of a screenshot from a webpage from IGN that reads 'Eggers did copious amounts of research on England in the 13th century for the screenplay, he co-wrote with his The Northman collaborator, Sjón. The film’s dialogue is in Middle English, although it’s been altered by dialect coach William Conacher to make it more comprehensible for the modern ear. Eggers also worked with two Middle English scholars at Oxford University, Eleanor Baker and Daniel Wakelin, who helped make the dialogue more period accurate.'

Imagine, IMAGINE, if you had turned around and said 'oh, I need to take a further month and a half to rejig my courses in the face of cataclysmic cuts, which would potentially result in material change'. Why on earth is it okay to do it to you?! The playing field is rotten and salted.

Today I saw some teenagers catch a fish (before they dropped it back) and asked them what it was. It was a perch, and they showed me a picture of an enormous pike they'd caught earlier in the summer. May life treat them kindly.

There are three things in Oxford that I credit with holding the threads of me together: 1. The displays of the florists in the covered market 2. Seeing the fruit and veg at Gloucester Green market 3. The teenagers who fish in Osney stream, who I would die for
