You still have to have the carbuncle summoned but that might as well be a buff similar to tank stance at this point. It doesent take damage and you cant move it around So its not a pet class anymore I get what youre saying tho

I think there was a major push with DND 5.5E to create parity with the DND MMOs Something similar happened with DnD Online, which had classes and races which were previously locked behind a paywall made free (like tieflings and monks). So great weapon fighter is barbarian now.
