Nice double act in my garden this morning. A wren and a hummingbird hawkmoth. A cross over of the seasons.

Ventured out this afternoon to do a few #bigbutterflycount @savebutterflies.bsky.social 7 species seen in 4 locations. Best thing I seen though was this cinnabar caterpillar.

My 1st pot of pots is harvested. Variety is Jester, chitted from leftover supermarket organic ones. Peat free, pesticide free. Looking forward to eating them.

A bowl of homegrown salad potatoes, variety is Jester.

Surprised to see a Goldeneye with 2 ducklings at @durhamwildlife.bsky.social low barns reserve today. The female was making any other birds keep their distance. Brilliant to see.

@rspb.bsky.social First day of no bird feeders, sat in garden now and 3 greenfinches appear, haven't seen any in the garden for over 2 years.

A beautiful spring day, seen my first orange tip butterfly of the year and watched and listened to a stunning male blackcap and saved a toad crossing a busy road. All in all a good restorative day after a hard few weeks. #lowbarns #spring @durhamwildlife.bsky.social

Lovely walk out at Low Barns @durhamwildlife.bsky.social this afternoon. Lots of signs of spring and a much needed mindful reset.

Lovely hour spent in the garden tonight, birdsong aplenty. This Blackbird was very busy getting worms and taking them to its nest. A lovely peaceful end to the day.

Lovely few hours from home up to and round the derwent reservoir this afternoon. Pied flycatcher, redstart the highlights along with hearing a cuckoo and seeing some bluebells.

Please say no to pesticides and herbicides. Cocktails of these chemicals in fields, gardens, parks, verges, community spaces are poisoning wildlife including bees, birds, hedgehogs, butterflies, beetles, frogs, damselflies, and polluting our rivers. Let's give nature a chance 🐝

More than 4 out of 10 insect species face extinction. Others are declining badly. We can help in our gardens and community spaces by not being too tidy, planting nectar-rich flowers & trees, and not using weedkillers and pesticides. More: bit.ly/2FCEJYz

I never posted much on the 'other platform' this feels so different, more accepting, more welcoming, less hateful and judgemental. I hope it stays like this. I aim to post more...gardening, nature, cooking related I imagine..oh and athletics! A random mix of my introverted life.
