Unclear, the obvious answer is something about ubiquitous American informality, but that seems too obvious.

One of those Reddit-facts that turns out to be true and that since learning it I can’t help but notice everywhere is that we Americans, almost uniquely, lean on things and further cross our legs while standing so that one heel is up in the air. This sounds like bullshit, but now you cannot unsee it.

I miss Periscope terribly and TikTok Live is a poor substitute, but I am currently watching guys play cricket in a Texas shopping center parking lot at 1AM local time.
They keep losing the ball, understandably.

This is absolutely fascinating
“We are on the cusp of giving people a very visible piece of evidence that really upends the neat and tidy ways people think about big moments of cultural change,” Boin said “Cultural changes are never as big as we think they are when living through them, and there’s a lot of gray area in between people’s customs and the broader society and culture. And a lot of those can be left out of the story. So to have this temple potentially be a temple dedicated to Constantice’s divine ancestors as a way to worship the emperor in an increasingly Christian world at the time, it’s so weird and I love that we can bring it to light.”

It’s worth noting that say Gorsuch’s project (completely disassemble the State) and Coney-Barrett’s (wield the State like a weapon) are diametrically opposed.

Sure, but that quote as written puts human remains in the same category as like explosive bolt shards, which I suppose I get in terms of “impurity,” but is still…a lot.

A long time ago I idly wondered “who were the indigenous population of the British Isles?” and answering that question is so maddening, it made me question the entire concept.

You know, I specifically chose the Hapsburgs, NAFO and North Korea to cover the widest possible political spectrum (you could make an argument for the not-so-distance between the HRE and NATO/the EU, but still)

That’s hilarious and I didn’t even consider it as an implication. (This trick also works for things that aren’t flags, like suits.)

No joke, aside from my tone I guess, the steam from the shower “irons” out the sharp creases in flags that have been folded a long time and that you can often see on flags that people ordered from Amazon etc.

Not to toot my own horn, because nothing I’ve ever written has done numbers, but genuinely I worry that the risk of centralizing a bunch of this otherwise scattered information outweighs any potential benefit.

I don’t know enough about NYC generally or that project particularly, but I wonder if that’s because of something other than inherent difficulty, because (also anecdotally) my small city has been doing a bunch of both office and light-industrial conversions for years now without incident.

That’s right and, practically, it’s just a way to chastise workers for job-switching, which also doesn’t even make sense on their own terms, but is just a kind of raw power politics.

So you could pick a bunch of different starting points for a “lurch to the Right,” for my purposes it’s always the Contract for America, but ultimately it’s not a discrete thing, it’s a trend that’s baked into the nature of our politics.
