Will the AfD winning in Saxony-Anhalt I've taken the paywall off the post I wrote last year about how memories of WW2 are being distorted by them and other radical right parties. "Never again?" samf.substack.com/p/never-agai...

Ryan Bridge - Founder of "Raise the Colours" flag protests - charged with 14 offences including common assault. Danny Thomas - ringleader of Dover/Portsmouth thuggery - an ex-con jailed for attempted kidnap at knifepoint. Almost like they're not "ordinary people with concerns" but criminals.

The AfD and Reform immigration policies are almost identical. There is no plausible reason for considering one far right and the other not.

I do have real contempt for fellow Jews like Phillips and Wallis Simons who are quite happy to endorse the worst people in society until it's explicitly targeted at us. Both because it's hypocritical but also because it's so fucking stupid. You don't need to read many history books...

Conservatives, Reform and Restore Britain are fighting a rural Dover by-election, featuring John Cleese, AI cliffs and a debate over counties on envelopes. Plus the rest of the week across the county.

A lot of the older members of the right-wing columinist set starting out on the left (the Living Marxism crew for starters, but plenty of other too - Peter Hitchens was a trot). I wonder if all the youngsters doing racism for the Telegraph will one day be radical leftists....

Without passing judgement, I'll also note that not a single other outlet, local or national, has reported on the shambles around the anthem.

I've read Private Eye since I was a teenager. Slightly giddy that someone there has been reading our work.

Chris Philp is the political equivalent of a stain on your carpet. Don't know how it got there; can't get rid of it; mostly forget about but when you notice it you get irritated all over again.

My post on Burnham's initial moves, changes to Number 10 and cabinet appointments. Being better at politics, and having a clear theory of power, is a start but only if it's service of an agenda that works. samf.substack.com/p/a-theory-o...

One of Truss's worst legacies is to give the lobby an obsession with small moves in gilt prices.

If you've woken up thinking 'I wish I could read 3,000 words on the process of local government reorganisation in Kent', then oh boy do I have the post for you.

Every council in Kent and Medway is being abolished. In April 2028, four new authorities will take responsibility for bins, roads, planning, schools, social care, and more. That will affect who makes decisions about your area and how much council tax you pay. The map is settled. Little else is.

It's interesting how much of this stuff is coming from within Reform. Not a happy ship.

Feel like true crime colliding with 24 hour political commentary is the cross breeding of two terrible media pathologies.

Some astonishing bollocks here. The fairness doctrine was abolished in 1987, and by the end of the decade Rush Limbaugh was already the biggest name in American news media. Roger Ailes who set up Fox (and worked for Reagan and Bush) was made President of CNBC in 1993.

Good morning from today’s full Kent County Council meeting. We’re once again in the tiny public gallery because press have been once again banned from the chamber itself. Was also instructed not film or photograph the meeting by KCC staff, which is definitely not legal. It might be a fun one.
Councillors assembled at County Hall ahead of KCC meeting.
