No, you deserve questions! Questions about your ideas, about other ideas you may not have considered, about where you want to go from there. You might not be getting them already, but if the answer is this, then there is no point in the whole enterprise.

Pregnancy kills. New humans, wonderful as they are, are expensive before they’re ever born &extremely so for decades afterwards. Things that should be socialized to support & alleviate these pressures are instead capitalized & moralized to create even more physical&fiscal dangers but do go on

> an increase in thin papers of narrow scope, as well as ‘salami’ papers, where a single work is broken up and submitted as a set of smaller papers. There is also a marked increase in dense, AI-written papers. AI tools are making it easy for authors to flood arXiv [and others with] low-value papers.
A histogram showing the incredible increase in submissions.

> In September of 2016, arXiv received 9,869 submissions. In September of 2024, arXiv received 20,569 submissions. This September, arXiv received 40,363 submissions, which in turn generated almost 9,000 support tickets for arXiv staff and moderators. In only the past two years, submissions have doubled.

I don’t use chemical weapons but I can still be informed about and expected regulation targeting their use. And I’d argue that the limited consumer-sided experience with AI, despite fatal threat they pose, doesn’t actually do much to support understanding the greater threats involved with other uses

The awful Cornell assault story reminds me of the movie "Promising Young Woman". A drunk young woman was raped by a classmate, as his college buddies watched and recorded the assault. It was a really dark movie & reminds me that the ugliness in fiction often stems from reality.
