4% of the service charge going towards base benefits means even if the remaining 16% go to the waitstaff and function as a tip, the restaurant is either essentially taking a 20% cut of their waitstaff’s tips, or expecting patrons to pay another 4% minimum on top of the 20%. That’s really gross.

I don’t buy into the vacant housing myth that sometimes goes around but there are store fronts I see in DC/Silver Spring that have been empty for years and I can only gather that the owners are insufficiently incentivized to lower their asking rents for those spaces.

I usually put my lock through the ear straps. I don’t think the straps can be removed from the helmet non destructively, though I suppose someone might be willing to do that and tie the cut strap ends together.

While it’s not as though noise pollution from a data center is going to drive a home’s value down much further if buyers are already expecting highway or airport noise, that does imply the wealthiest commuters don’t live with data centers that close to them.

The data centers are along the highways to Dulles (why they call it a technology “corridor”. The homes near the data centers are somewhat lower value but that probably has more to do with proximity to the highways than the data centers (why the data centers are there in the first place).
