4yr old and I took the bus to swimming yesterday. Heading home we got on the 2. As we were walking to a seat a gentleman said something to me I didnt catch: "Does your kid want a banana?" he repeated, pulling out a bunch from his Aldi bag. I declined but I appreciate the "it takes a village" vibe.

Thanking a higher power that One on One moved a mile from home in the tine since buying this bike. I dont think i could have ridden a 70 lb bike 6 miles across the city.

A reason Bryant was reconstructed was because it was a former streetcar and then bus route. Buses were moved to Lyndale w/ this work. You can look up traffic counts for streets in Minnesota at the link below. Bryant went from AADT in the 2ks to about 700+ mndot.public.ms2soft.com/tcds/tsearch...

This is a nice pamphlet laying out the conditions on the street per-reconstruction.

@alexschief.bsky.social can give you better numbers. But I think there were 2k-4k cars per day pre-reconstruction. It was a fairly major artery. I would guess that its dropped down to about 1k a day post reconstruction.

Great video! I think it's important to highlight that Bryant Ave is a quiet one-way residential street in part because of the bike lane. It wasn't that way pre-reconstruction.

My Specialized Globe Haul isn't turning on after riding home from work in the rain Tuesday. I'm hoping I can figure this out without having to replace the control electronics. I'm at the cusp of 10k miles, and I've been looking forward to seeing the odometer roll over.

Baseball cap under the helmet has been the best solution I've found for keeping rain from hitting the too half of my face even around 20mph.

I dont think SWT has any plans for the future. The Greenline Extension is a few months away - they've done no public outreach, no discussion of this in their Commissioner meetings. I have no optimism that they are going to do any work to interface with this new line.

Metro Transit’s Green Line Extension will open in June. Its competitors are … excited?
In urban centers, light rail is on a slow path to recovery. But in the southwest suburbs, more means more for the Green Line Extension.

Sometimes, the cargo bike needs extra capacity. Like when your 20 month old yells, "Stuck! Stuck!" when you put groceries in the bike. Just convert that pizza rack to a grocery rack - no tools required.

My family would head to Philips Aquatic Center Sunday AMs in the winter for Family Swim. An activity I'd highlight as a reason why Minneapolis was special. 2025 budget cuts removed those hours from the schedule. More unique, accessible resources will disappear if we dont protect them.

Is that because you have a long wait for the 38? It's a great bike ride to the station on the South Cedar Lake trail.

Just got back from a work trip to the Netherlands. It was interesting to see the difference in tabled intersections. Theirs essentially look like dead ends with very abrupt transitions up to sidewalk level.

city will fix 2 notorious Uptown bike lane problems between now and 2028: -connect the missing link on Lake between Humboldt & Hennepin Ave. -convert to a 2 way bike lane on Hennepin between Lake & 31st; create curbside parking for food delivery drivers who always park in the existing lanes.

Its interesting - what ive found is that there is plenty of car infrastructure. Just rather than it being the only option, there is balance between other modes. Parking lots have cars, there are plenty of highways and gas stations, but everywhere is also accessible by transit, bike and walking

Not everything is ideal - mopeds are allowed on both bike paths and roads, and they jump between the two frequently. It's a little unnerving. Also, there doesn't seem to be an ADA equivalent. Crosswalk timing can be extremely short - just enough time for an able bodies person to make it across.

Obviously, there is also a ubiquitous level of bike infrastructure. I would even say that it might not be perfect everywhere, but it is *everywhere*. Even stairs have channels for bike tires for when you're pushing your bike up or down if there is no ramp.

Maastricht has an old side of the river and new side. The old side has super narrow streets and a shocking amount of retail that seems to be thriving.

Mobility around the country is easy. Trains get you to every city. After Amsterdam to The Hague, #1 and 3 largest cities, I traveled by train 3 hours as far south as you can get to Maastricht, a city with about 120k people. Seems pretty analogous to Twin Cities to Duluth... just saying

I screwed up and didnt take the train to Den Haag Centraal - the big station, but Den Haag HS - but it was still a sizeable transit hub. Walking out there were bus stops and trams.

I spent a day jetlagged in The Hague. Here is some bike parking at a small train station that I arrived in. MN state fair level bikes parked outside with more bikes parked inside. And a bike shop connected to the station.

All of the municipalities north of Chaska also do a pretty good job of plowing - even the gravel sections. So its very doable in the winter too.
