Sometimes, the cargo bike needs extra capacity. Like when your 20 month old yells, "Stuck! Stuck!" when you put groceries in the bike. Just convert that pizza rack to a grocery rack - no tools required.

Just got back from a work trip to the Netherlands. It was interesting to see the difference in tabled intersections. Theirs essentially look like dead ends with very abrupt transitions up to sidewalk level.

Not everything is ideal - mopeds are allowed on both bike paths and roads, and they jump between the two frequently. It's a little unnerving. Also, there doesn't seem to be an ADA equivalent. Crosswalk timing can be extremely short - just enough time for an able bodies person to make it across.

A little slice of home in the Netherlands.

Obviously, there is also a ubiquitous level of bike infrastructure. I would even say that it might not be perfect everywhere, but it is *everywhere*. Even stairs have channels for bike tires for when you're pushing your bike up or down if there is no ramp.

Maastricht has an old side of the river and new side. The old side has super narrow streets and a shocking amount of retail that seems to be thriving.

Mobility around the country is easy. Trains get you to every city. After Amsterdam to The Hague, #1 and 3 largest cities, I traveled by train 3 hours as far south as you can get to Maastricht, a city with about 120k people. Seems pretty analogous to Twin Cities to Duluth... just saying

I screwed up and didnt take the train to Den Haag Centraal - the big station, but Den Haag HS - but it was still a sizeable transit hub. Walking out there were bus stops and trams.

I spent a day jetlagged in The Hague. Here is some bike parking at a small train station that I arrived in. MN state fair level bikes parked outside with more bikes parked inside. And a bike shop connected to the station.

Realized my dream of getting my whole family in the bike today! The hardest part was getting the bike back on the kickstand.

The last few paragraphs are not something I want to see. Ending the NorthStar is going to end up making life harder for more than just the people who relied on the line.

All the road features seem to be repainted on Lyndale after the recent repaving. All except the bike crossing at 40th St. When's that happening?

First Saturdays of the month are Storytime Saturdays at In the Heart of the Beast. If you can handle the chaos of 30 kids in a small space, it's really wonderful. They do a great job keeping the kids engaged and the puppets are always simple but really creative.

We always say, "In Minneapolis, you're never more than 0.5 miles from a park." That always feels abstract to me. In practice, it means you can do an adventure across the city for a sandwich at Marty's Deli and find a killer playground for the kids.

Afternoon trip to Linden Hills Park and splash pad. I think this park might have the best shaded splash pad in SW. There are surprisingly few cargo bikes given the number of families here (ours are the only 2). One day, we'll have to talk about the lack of real bike infrastructure in Ward 13.

I ride a Specialized Globe Haul for commuting in Minnesota all year round. Chain and hub drive. Rode about 5k miles before replacing the chain. The rear sprocket might need replacing next year, but 9k miles in and still fine. The hub drive puts most of the force after the chain so it minimizes wear.

Morning of Day 2 was just me and the kids. Went to Gigi's for eggs and French toast and Bogart's for a chocolate donut. We headed down Bryant to the Sculpture Garden, and the 4 yr old drew some sculptures. These are my favorites.

I'll call this Day 1 of our week-long Minneapolis staycation. We took the Kenilworth Trail to Target Field for the kids' first baseball game. It's no State Fair bike parking, but the bike coral still looked good.

Yesterday, Hennepin County gave a presentation looking for feedback on intersections on Washington Ave: push bike lanes up to the sidewalk or keep them at street level. This image was used for the sidewalk level option. A car blocking the cross walk and bike lane trying to turn right on red.

I once rode by someone on the Greenway riding no hands playing this game in the image. I thought impressive but maybe it'd be better to focus on one thing at a time.

Nicollet Bridge over Minnehaha. I think they are preserving the arches that were built in 1923. The deck is getting replaced and should end up with some nice protected bike lanes.

I parked, got out offered to buy it off the guy. I offered $50 - he countered with $100 so I went into the gas station got a few extra bucks from the atm and bought it back. Through it in my Prius and went home with my trunk wide open.

Apparently, I need to put bars on my garage window even though it's high up. They brought my garbage cans from the alley and used that to get in through the window.

Cargo bikes are the ideal vehicle for a TJs trip: -With the store 4 miles from home, the whole trip is a tight 1 hr. -Enough room for groceries + kid. -No need to deal with navigating a TJs parking lot.
