Remembering today that having your heart broken is a necessary step on the path to becoming fully human. Whichever heartbreak is your first, it’s probably critical that a state break your heart so that you can develop a political imagination. If this is your first, I’m sorry and also welcome.

Each semester I go in my classroom and I try to figure out what we would use to block the doors, if it would be safe to crawl out the windows, where we could hide if there was a mass shooter in campus. It’s such an indictment of this country how we have normalized these preventable tragedies.

tl;dr (but actually go read it anyway); Born 1957-1967? You might have gotten a weak shot. Born 1967-1989? You might have gotten one shot, not enough. In either case, the options are 1) look up your vaccination records, 2) get a measles titer measurement; or... 3) just get a booster! (I did that.)

The attack on DEI shows why liberals should stop arguing about "strategic" use of language forever. DEI stands for three uncontroversial virtues that most every American accepts, and the right still turned it into a vile slur. It doesn't matter what you say - they will poison it because YOU said it.

Text: 59. For example, it is not clear which of the following activities OCR would consider
a violation of the Letter:
○ Teaching a college course on the history of the U.S. South and Jim Crow, urban
policy and planning, modern American history, or the history of housing and
segregation.
○ Leading a class discussion on the history of slavery in America or Japanese
internment during World War II.
○ Maintaining Departments of African American Studies, Arab American Studies,
Asian American Studies, or Jewish Studies.
○ Hosting a celebration for Black History Month, Holi, Eid, or Lunar New Year.
○ Hosting a Latin American culture club or a Japanese film club.
○ Counseling a student who was called a racial or ethnic slur and is upset about that
experience.
○ Maintaining a school mission built around advancing excellence and equity.
○ Telling students they cannot use a racial slur and explaining why other students
might find the slur hurtful.
