Normal Airport Ads: Drink Coca-cola! Eat McDonalds! Earn status points! Buy an iPhone! Ads at DCA: In the market for a new tank? No? How about a Cylon Raider?
Photo of a black wall-mounted advertisement in an airport concourse. Large white text reads "BUILT FULL-MISSION CAPABLE" next to the orange and white Keel logo. Smaller text below says "Systems That Detect, Defend and Defeat by Keel." The image shows a tan M1 Abrams-style battle tank on red dirt in front of a pine forest. The URL keelusa.com is at the bottom. Enjoy your flight!Photo of a backlit airport advertisement above a "B C D E Gates" sign. The Shield AI logo sits over the headline "The World's First AI-Piloted VTOL Fighter Jet." The render shows three dark, delta-winged aircraft standing tail-down on launch stands and trailers, lit by glowing floodlights against a starry night sky. Text at the bottom reads "Learn more @ shield.ai." This is essentially a real-life Cylon Raider from Battlestar Galactica, it’s just missing the red eye. So say we all!

There’s always something poetic about the last day of the season. Summer, along with its frivolous daily entertainment, is officially over.

Somehow the front is worse. What does this even mean?!?
Close-up of the side of an Amtrak Acela train wrapped in a patriotic-themed advertisement. Large white nonsensical text reads “1776 NATIONAL CHAMPS.” against a dark blue background, with part of the Statue of Liberty visible on the right and a “Freedom 250” logo partially visible on the left. A red banner along the bottom includes partially cropped text beginning “Delivered by President Donald J. Trump…” while the train is stopped at a station platform.

That fucking guy put his name on the new Acela trains. Not even Amtrak Joe had the gall to do that.

Large bold white text at the top reads “Wait Less. Move More.” Below, a three-row graphic lists benefits by mode: a car icon with “Shorter Lights,” a bicycle icon with “Dedicated Lanes” in gold text, and a pedestrian icon with “Safer Crosswalks.” The Better Braddock logo and tagline “One Road. For Everyone.” appear in the center. The URL BetterBraddock.org and a QR code run along the bottom

Is there any talk about the rebuilding/using/demolishing the haunted tunnel which “connects” Mill Rd to the Duke St bike network? I’d kill for a more direct route to Wegmans.

It’s hard to capture the full beauty of the 37-message long thread, but here’s what finally broke me and my response.
Email thread screenshot. Opposition comment dismissing safety concerns about stop signs and confusing intersections as “laughable,” arguing cyclists should handle complexity like cars do. Reply states: “Tyranny by the minority! That is what this has become.” Email screenshot of Brian’s response clarifying that Safe Braddock Road project is for kids cycling to school and commuters heading to metro. States the goal is creating a safe neighborhood street for residents, emphasizing this is not about recreational road cyclists.

I like the idea of line drawings! I might try that in my next iteration. I went with a straightforward monochrome version here, which I’m digging visually. Simple white line drawings would go nice here.

There are some iterations buried in the replies, so here is the latest stripped down version. I still want to lose some text, but I’m not positive on how to connect “[Lets Build a] Safe Braddock Road” to the city’s plan in one concise and catchy line. [Continued below]

I took a crack at a flyer and yard sign for the Braddock Rd improvement campaign. I’d love feedback. Is there anyone in #AlxSkeets with an eye for graphic design or marketing?
Yard sign reading “Let’s Build a Safe Braddock Road.” Subtitle: “The City’s Plan Benefits Everyone.” Three icons below: a walking figure labeled “Safer Crosswalks,” a pedestrian crossing sign labeled “Calmer Traffic,” and a bicycle labeled “Protected Lanes.” Footer in dark navy: “Tell City Council that We Want a Neighborhood Street, Not a Highway.” A QR code placeholder appears in the bottom right.Advocacy flier with a red header reading “Braddock Road Is Not Safe.” Two facts below: “The Federal Highway Administration classifies Braddock Rd as an Unsafe Design” and “The City of Alexandria has designated it a High Injury Network.” A teal banner reads “The City Has a Plan to Fix It,” followed by “A Better Braddock Benefits Everyone” and three benefit columns: Safer Crosswalks (“Shortens the distance kids and seniors have to walk across intersections”), Calmer Traffic (“Visually narrowing the road is a proven way to force drivers to actually drive 25 MPH”), and Protected Lanes (“Separates bikes from cars, providing a safe route to school, Metro, and Old Town”). Dark footer with a QR code: “Tell City Council that We Want a Neighborhood Street, Not a Highway.” Green footer: “Let’s Build a Safe Braddock Road.“

*DAVID ATTENBOROUGH VOICE* The snowcrete glaciers of Alexandria. Once ubiquitous but now rapidly receding, these remnants of an ancient ice age have no place in our warming world.
A wider shot of a melting snow pile on the side of a paved road. The surrounding landscape looks dry and spring-like, emphasizing how unnatural this dense chunk of January ice looks in the current climate.A photograph showing a larger, retreating mound of soot-covered snow beside an asphalt road. Long, dramatic tree shadows stretch across the pavement, creeping toward the stubborn snowcrete as it slowly succumbs to the warmth.

It was 70 last weekend and will be 80 next weekend. Today we had 1” of beautiful powdery snow. That’s Smarch weather for you!
A snowy night on a wooden deck. Two mushroom-shaped cordless table lamps — one burgundy, one dark gray — stand on a snow-covered table, each with a dome of fresh snow on top. A small glass candle lantern sits between them. Snow-dusted trees and a wooden railing are visible in the background, lit by warm ambient light.A 10-day weather forecast displayed on a dark background, showing temperatures ranging from a Tuesday low of 27°F to highs in the low 80s by the following weekend. The week begins with rain (91% and 84% precipitation chances Tuesday and Wednesday), transitioning to partly cloudy conditions mid-week with highs in the mid-70s, then a stormy Sunday before clearing into sunshine. Each day shows high and low temperatures as colored gradient bars from green (cool) to orange/red (warm).

My vision for Braddock Rd:
0140
Brian @egan.ninja · 23/02/2026
ALX Bike Friends - I just wrote this email to a few of the Rosemont listservs to explain why the new Braddock Rd will benefit everyone. Please read and email our councilors and the Traffic and Parking Board! And join the meeting at 7p tomorrow night and speak up! The pro-parking folks will!
Screenshot of a community post opening with ‘Hi All,’ followed by an introduction to the proposed Braddock Road changes. The post states the City’s recommended design (Option 4B) does three things: organizes chaotic traffic, dramatically improves pedestrian safety, and speeds up frustrating intersections. The first section, ‘Modernizes Intersections & Improves Traffic Flow,’ begins describing the Braddock/Russell intersection as a ‘chaotic, unpredictable free-for-all.’Screenshot of the middle portion of the community post. Continues Section 1, noting that the City’s traffic analysis shows the redesign cuts average delay at Braddock/Russell Road by nearly 30% and reduces southbound Russell Road wait times by 38%. Section 2, ‘A Massive Upgrade for Pedestrian Safety,’ argues that crossing Braddock is currently dangerous and that the redesign shortens crossing distances and improves visibility, protecting kids walking to Brooks and GW Middle School, Metro commuters, and dog walkers. Section 3, ‘Improve Traffic Flow by Organizing the Roadway,’ begins by noting that mixing a 12-mph bicycle with a 4,000-pound vehicle driving 35mph creates dangerous speed inconsistencies.Screenshot continuing the community post. Section 3 argues that separating 12-mph bicycles from 35-mph vehicle traffic reduces dangerous swerving and braking, and that reallocating underutilized street parking to protected bike lanes makes driving faster and more predictable. Section 4, ‘Protecting Our Property Values,’ counters opponents by citing real estate research showing walkable, bikeable neighborhoods command higher property values. The Bottom Line section begins: ‘We are trading underutilized street parking for organized intersections, smoother traffic flow, and streets that are safe to cross.Screenshot of a community post by Brian Egan, Rosemont Resident. Text reads: ‘I walk and bike my kids to school each day. The soul of Rosemont is in its busy sidewalks and the community they foster. That’s why we bought here. Every generic suburb has cars, but very, very few have this. This is our chance to create a road that reflects the vibrant future of our neighborhood.’ Followed by a call to email the Traffic & Parking Board and city council members at six listed alexandriava.gov addresses to support the modernization of Braddock Road.
