@rexparker.bsky.social I probably follow more Sports posters than you, but I just opened Bluesky to find a whole string of posts about 17-Down. (Apparently one just happened.) Nonetheless I agree with your assessment of that word in today's post.

I went to read your review earlier in the day than I usually do, and was initially disappointed that it was one of your off days. I'm grateful that Malaika rose to the occasion. Not sure what the opposite of "icing on the cake" is, but those bolded Ms on the clues are it.

Here’s a look at the special guests, live music, and special shows coming up on my @wfmu.bsky.social radio show over the next couple of months, kicking off with the great Bruce McCulloch (hi @kithonline.bsky.social!) next week! Make sure you’re listening every Tuesday at 3pm EDT / noon Pacific!

Upcoming Special Programs on WMU for The Evan "Funk" Davies Show

BRUCE McCULLOCH
Tuesday, June 30th, 3pm - 6pm on The Evan "Funk" Davies Show
Canadian actor/comedian/musician/writer- damn, the slash key just broke
- Bruce McCulloch joins the elite Quad Qlub as he returns for his fourth appearance on The Evan "Funk" Davies Show! Bruce recently released his third album, Dark Purple Slice (Tront Communications / Hidden Pony), which is a musical companion of sorts to the one-man show of the same name that Bruce has been performing across Canada this year. Bruce and Evan will chat about and play some tracks from the LP, and certainly The Kids In The Hall will be mentioned at least once.
LOVE, BURNS
Tuesday, July 14th, 3pm - 6pm on The Evan "Funk" Davies Show
Love, Burns (with one of the most important commas in rock 'n' roll) is the solo project of longtime indie jangler Phil Sutton (Pale Lights, Comet Gain, Velocette, et al.). Their new album Pavement Drawings (Spinout Nuggets) has drawn comparisons to Lloyd Cole and Felt, among other luminaries; you'll hear plenty of songs from the album during this live set.
THE JACK RUBIES
Tuesday, July 21st, 3pm - 6pm on The Evan "Funk" Davies Show
Formed in East London in the mid-'80s, The Jack Rubies enjoyed a successful run that included two LPs on TVT and regular appearances on "modern rock" radio and 120 Minutes. After calling it quits in the early '90s the group reformed a few years ago and began putting out new music on the Big Stir label, including this year's Visions In The Bowling Alley.

VAN GOTH
Tuesday, July 28th, 3pm - 6pm on The Evan "Funk" Davies Show
You've heard tracks from their debut album Is It? all over WFMU - now hear them play live! As you surely know by now, Van Goth is a duo that includes WFMU's own DJ Sydney and Simon Schadler from Choncy. All fans of sparse early-'80s inspired post-punk must tune in!
RACKET SQUAD
Tuesday, August 4th, 3pm - 6pm on The Evan "Funk" Davies Show
This New York City three-piece includes members of the Sea Monkeys, Mighty Fine, Purple Wizard, and more. They self-released their debut album last year, which was unaccountably slept on by EFD. As it turns out the album is jam-packed with catchy tunes that land along the power pop/hard rock spectrum, and they're a great live band to boot! Tune in and hear for yourself!
The 18th annual Evan "Funk" Davies Show
Summertime Disco/Dance Party!
Tuesday, August 11th, 3pm - 6pm on The Evan "Funk" Davies Show
Disco dancing on a TUESDAY?! Hey, don't knock it 'til you've tried it! Get that boombox out of the closet, hook up the disco ball, and turn up the volume as Evan "Funk" Davies will be spinning classic dance and disco jams from the mid-70s to the early '80s, along with some new-to-you nuggets. Everybody's dancin', everybody's on the beat, and there ain't no stoppin' us now!
CHIME SCHOOL
Tuesday, August 25th, 3pm - 6pm on The Evan "Funk" Davies Show
Since the release of their self-titled debut on the venerable Slumberland label in 2021, Chime School has become one of the top acts on the Bay Area indie-pop scene. The band is the solo project of Andy Pastalaniec (PAST-uh-LAY-nick), whose other bands include seablite and The Telephone Numbers, among others. All of Chime School's releases have gotten quite a bit of airplay on WMU; if their name's not ringing a bell get it?) tune in to this live set for a refresher.

Evan "Funk" Davies fills in for Michele with One "L"
Tuesday, May 12th, Noon - 3pm
on The Evan "Funk" Davies Show
The Hobknobs is a new duo formed by Arie Van Vliet from Lewsberg and Yaël Dekker from The Klittens. They bring together Lewsberg’s melancholy guitar pop and The Klittens’ post-punk sensibilities, with a new album coming out next month on 12XU.
Swansea Sound was formed by Heavenly’s Amelia Fletcher and Rob Pursey with Hue Williams of The Pooh Sticks as a singles project during the COVID lockdown. They'll be touring the West Coast with Heavenly in June, and today they make their second appearance on WFMU.
Rachel Lichtman calls in to talk about 'Programme 4: Make The Scene,' a live retro-inspired television experience that blends film, live performance, and talk-show elements into an analog broadcast-style event. It takes the stage at Monty Hall this Thursday night with special guest MC Ted Leo!
