Yves' is a rugged mishmash of northern English dialects that kind of settle somewhere near Manchester. Lace has a Transatlantic accent (think movies from the 40s) Onghul's is hard to describe. Imagine RP but very deliberately and crisply annunciated like someone's *forcing* themselves into RP.

It was so much fun because we had people come in with BONKERS character concepts and as long as they were being cool with everyone we just rolled with it. We even had our own WoL for a while.

I miss my old bar because it got so much Lore over the years. It was just a hole in the wall relatively lore appropriate tavern, but for some reason we were a hub for cyborgs. We had someone RPing Hatsune Miku as a regular. One time Yves tricked a fae by serving it booze on the house.

I answered this before but I think it bears repeating that this is the one thing that will get Onghul to chew you out. He is not a "lizard." The fact that he has horns and scales and a tail is irrelevant. He believes referring to him as an animal is highly offensive (as it would be irl!)

I don't write this post because I believe BIPOC are special cases that need outside study like a mystical beast. I write it because I genuinely believe that most white people don't -want- to cause harm, but we don't know -how- to avoid it. This is for those that want to do better but don't know how.

And finally, ASK CLARIFYING QUESTIONS -AFTER- YOU CARRY OUT MODERATION. Your primary concern is making your Black and POC friends feel safe. If you wish to correct your blind spots, ask politely for explanation afterward and respect that they may be too tired to give it. Racism is exhausting.

On that topic, TREAT REPORTS -WITH- BIAS. Your default response to any complaint of racism is to take the side of the person making it because you DON'T know what it looks like. They don't want special privilege; they just want to feel like equal and safe members of the community.

The second is to RECOGNIZE YOUR BLIND SPOTS. As a white person, there are simply things you can never know about the BIPOC experience simply because you will never encounter these things. No amount of theory will help you understand. Recognize and accept this. It doesn't make you a bad person.

The most important thing is to TAKE REPORTS AS GRACE, NOT CRITICISM. Black people bringing these up are doing you a FAVOR. They could very easily just disappear from your life, but them bringing it up means they hold some level of respect or trust that you'll understand. Don't betray that.

Honestly Yves would be more fond of a maternal figure stepping up than a paternal one, especially if that paternal figure would have rich privilege. He grew up yearning for the love of mothers around him and cursing the faceless father who abandoned him. Any father figure is a target for that ire.

I think a lot of it comes from the lack of acknowledgement or care he had as a child. His caretakers largely either ignored him or beat him when he did something wrong. He was never praised for doing something right and was always treated like he was just in the way.
