Today's ride was a welcome return to the saddle after replacing my controller and making MANY adjustments to get rid of the error (which means it might not have been the controller in the first place!) In any event, no issues today, so I'm feeling a bit more confident that the problems are solved

I deeply hate this. I have been fascinated by the fall of the American chestnut tree and the efforts to bring it back. How grotesque this is.

AAAAAAPPLES. (My favorite variety, er, varies, obviously. Grocery store apple would be a Cosmic Crisp. Heirloom, I’d say Cox’s Orange Pippin. Overall though, GoldRush is the goat.)

Bad/sad news: Got to the trail and the bike threw an error message and refused to move. Happy/glad news: That error convinced me the problem is a bad controller. Ecstatic/thrilled news: @AventonBikes is sending me a warranty replacement and I can do the work myself! They rock!

Today's ride is the first since Saturday (which I forgot to post). Thrilled to see the twin fawns that had been missing for a few weeks. They've grown a bit and are well!

Part two of Insulin Sensitivity Training just as EASD kicks off this week! I cover a couple more advanced topics and look at 3 different clinical trials that weave a story of how Eli Lilly proved the insulin sensitivity benefits of GIP agonism in humans and why GIP is the real hero.

Today's ride was a full and fully successful test of the adjustments I spent some time making yesterday. Might need a little fine-tuning, but no more power loss.

Today's ride was a nice return to the trail after all that rain. The bike mostly behaved, but I do think I've narrowed down the problem. Looks like the sensitivity on the rear brake lever is too high. That can cause the power to cut it out. I'll take a look at it tomorrow.

Today's ride ended early due to a loss of power, even though the battery was full. Last 5 miles were, um, challenging (this sucker is heavy!) No obvious issues on inspection, so I just reseated the battery and chalked it up to a glitch in the controller. We'll see what happens!

Today's ride was uneventful, but I remembered my windbreaker, for which I was grateful. Unfortunately, my fall nemesis, horse chestnuts, have started to appear.

Today's ride was a welcome return to the trail after missing two perfect days due to regular life stuff. I started using patella bands a couple of days ago and they really seem to help! A lot cheaper than the uselessly bulky hinge brace I tried first.

Today's ride was a nice return to the trail after 3 days off due to other commitments. Told Charlotte I would need my windbreaker. Forgot it. It was "bracing".

I do not know why THE BOOK OF ACCIDENTS is a mere dollar ninety nine for your electronic book device, but it is, so if you want a weird "you can't go home again" haunted house story (that also connects a little to THE CALAMITIES, as a treat), then go grabby grabby.
Book cover: THE BOOK OF ACCIDENTS, Chuck Wendig, National Bestseller, New York Times Bestselling Author of Wanderers. Showing two houses, one upside down above the other, in an eerie green "black and white" hue. Horror novel.

I'm putting the finishing touches on my newest blog article about insulin sensitivity. Why does it matter? How are GLP1 drugs involved? What the heck is an M-value and what's this graph all about? Find out tomorrow!

Today's ride was about 20% obstinacy and 80% guilt, as I was almost hoping to be rained out. Surprisingly, my legs felt stronger than yesterday, but my knees aren't showing much improvement. The pain is manageable on the bike, at least.

Today's ride was a bit warmer than yesterday, but certainly beautiful. Given how my legs and knees are feeling, getting rained out tomorrow might not be the worst thing!

This data is preclinical but it is actually something I discussed in my blog almost a year ago. This natriuretic/diuretic effect of glucagon that conserves free water has some very interesting beneficial implications for renal disease and heart failure. Something to keep an eye on going forward!

Today's ride included very carefully inching past two utility trucks and a bucket truck parked nose-to-tail on the trail. Maybe 6" of clearance before the very steep drop to the river below, which had me sweating a bit, but I'm glad they are there working on whatever they're doing.

Today's ride was the first after that crazy storm on Thursday. It looks like they cleared about half a dozen trees on the Moxham end and maybe as many on the part closest to Sandyvale. Today also marks over 3k miles since I bought the bike last year

Dr. Eric Ecklund @eecklund.bsky.social · 03/09/2026
Today's ride was marginally cooler than yesterday, but we're talking fractions of a degree. I'm impressed with how well the trail is drying out from some of these insane storms. Makes for a nicer ride.

Today's ride was uncomfortably hot, so I guess I made the right decision skipping yesterday. My car claimed it was 102 at the end of the ride and only dropped to 98 after driving home. Sheesh!

To folks who think caving on things like “Lake America” doesn’t matter in the long run… It does. It invites more such ego-serving It suggests that there’s no push back. It teaches people to expect more of the same. It matters.

Today's ride was a successful test of the Flat Out! I added yesterday after getting that puncture. Confession: I've had the product in my garage for a year and just never got around to using it. It probably works even better if you add it before you need it! Highly recomended, in any case.

Today's ride unfortunately came with a small puncture in my rear tire and tube half way through the ride. I was able to finish the 20 with two re-airings, so I decided to see if Flat Out! could stop the leak. Holding so far, but we'll see!

I'm a little bit loathe to share some of these real world evidence trials because the caveats and confounders can be numerous but still fun to see what they find...and again a trial showing an outsized all cause mortality benefit for tirzepatide. This keeps happening and it's making me go 🧐🤔

Today's ride is the first "after school" ride of the academic year. I've got just under 600 miles to go to match last season's riding distance, which should be doable over the next 10 weeks or so. I might need to put snow tires on to get those miles in!
