Today's ride was a welcome return to the saddle after replacing my controller and making MANY adjustments to get rid of the error (which means it might not have been the controller in the first place!) In any event, no issues today, so I'm feeling a bit more confident that the problems are solved

Still a lapdog at nearly 50lbs

Today's ride is the first since Saturday (which I forgot to post). Thrilled to see the twin fawns that had been missing for a few weeks. They've grown a bit and are well!

Today's ride was a full and fully successful test of the adjustments I spent some time making yesterday. Might need a little fine-tuning, but no more power loss.

Ginger is convinced she is a lap dog. This does not bode well for my hips and pelvis in a few short months.

Today's ride was a nice return to the trail after all that rain. The bike mostly behaved, but I do think I've narrowed down the problem. Looks like the sensitivity on the rear brake lever is too high. That can cause the power to cut it out. I'll take a look at it tomorrow.

Today's ride ended early due to a loss of power, even though the battery was full. Last 5 miles were, um, challenging (this sucker is heavy!) No obvious issues on inspection, so I just reseated the battery and chalked it up to a glitch in the controller. We'll see what happens!

Today's ride was uneventful, but I remembered my windbreaker, for which I was grateful. Unfortunately, my fall nemesis, horse chestnuts, have started to appear.

Today's ride was a welcome return to the trail after missing two perfect days due to regular life stuff. I started using patella bands a couple of days ago and they really seem to help! A lot cheaper than the uselessly bulky hinge brace I tried first.

Today's ride was a nice return to the trail after 3 days off due to other commitments. Told Charlotte I would need my windbreaker. Forgot it. It was "bracing".

Today's ride was about 20% obstinacy and 80% guilt, as I was almost hoping to be rained out. Surprisingly, my legs felt stronger than yesterday, but my knees aren't showing much improvement. The pain is manageable on the bike, at least.

Today's ride was a bit warmer than yesterday, but certainly beautiful. Given how my legs and knees are feeling, getting rained out tomorrow might not be the worst thing!

Today's ride included very carefully inching past two utility trucks and a bucket truck parked nose-to-tail on the trail. Maybe 6" of clearance before the very steep drop to the river below, which had me sweating a bit, but I'm glad they are there working on whatever they're doing.

Today's ride features yet another Bluetooth drop out (thus the weird map). My thanks to the crews that cleared the remaining tree from the trail!

Today's ride was the first after that crazy storm on Thursday. It looks like they cleared about half a dozen trees on the Moxham end and maybe as many on the part closest to Sandyvale. Today also marks over 3k miles since I bought the bike last year

Today's ride was marginally cooler than yesterday, but we're talking fractions of a degree. I'm impressed with how well the trail is drying out from some of these insane storms. Makes for a nicer ride.

Today's ride was uncomfortably hot, so I guess I made the right decision skipping yesterday. My car claimed it was 102 at the end of the ride and only dropped to 98 after driving home. Sheesh!

Today's ride was a successful test of the Flat Out! I added yesterday after getting that puncture. Confession: I've had the product in my garage for a year and just never got around to using it. It probably works even better if you add it before you need it! Highly recomended, in any case.

Dr. Eric Ecklund @eecklund.bsky.social · 30/08/2026
Today's ride unfortunately came with a small puncture in my rear tire and tube half way through the ride. I was able to finish the 20 with two re-airings, so I decided to see if Flat Out! could stop the leak. Holding so far, but we'll see!

Today's ride was COLD for the first loop and only mildly warmer for the second. I saw 4 English Cream Goldens, including a trio walking together. I assume all the field Goldens are out practicing their retrieves.

Today's ride made me happy because I saw the twin fawns (and their mother) that I see frequently. I was worried that one had been killed after spotting one on the side of the road earlier in the week, but they are alive and well. 1/2

Today's ride was much warmer than Monday's, when I had to wear my windbreaker. What can I say; I'm a delicate flower.

Today's ride is the first "after school" ride of the academic year. I've got just under 600 miles to go to match last season's riding distance, which should be doable over the next 10 weeks or so. I might need to put snow tires on to get those miles in!

Today's ride, and yesterday's since I forgot to post it. Ginger has been handling being kenneled periodically during the day well, even after extended periods when I was on campus. Such a good girl!

Dr. Eric Ecklund @eecklund.bsky.social · 19/08/2026
Today's ride was the first I tried to get in after returning to campus this week while solo puppy parenting. Ginger was kind enough to accommodate me. Bonus, a very considerate fallen tree.

Lots of dogs take the squeaker out of their toys. Ginger cut out the middle-man. I don't even know where she found them (they're old) and, of course she had one in her mouth while chewing on the rest of the package.

Today's ride was a short one after dropping my wife and MIL at the local airport. Ginger was only kenneled between 11:30 and 2, but she did fine. We'll see how she does with extended stays this week.

Today's ride was an only partially successful attempt to ride away some irritations, including being rear ended this morning coming back from a hair cut. Dented the bike rack a little, but that's all

Today's ride was a cool one, so I was back to rocking my way oversized windbreaker. At least some of the puddles have started to dry up.

Today's ride was a little rough knee -wise, but I'm glad I got out and managed to miss the rain and storms again.
000
Dr. Eric Ecklund @eecklund.bsky.social · 10/08/2026
Today's ride was a successful attempt to get out between the storms. Given how stormy it was at 6:30 AM, when Ginger woke me up, I was afraid it would be a rain day.

Today's ride was only a single loop as the grandkids and puppy left me running on fumes this weekend!

Today's ride was just a single loop as I have a lunch movie date with my wife!

Dr. Eric Ecklund @eecklund.bsky.social · 05/08/2026
Today's ride was earlier than usual because I thought the rain was coming sooner than it is, but it's all good (except for the Bluetooth drops that again screwed up the tracking a bit).
000
Dr. Eric Ecklund @eecklund.bsky.social · 03/08/2026
Today's ride was slightly under-tracked and mis-mapped thanks to repeated Bluetooth drops. Got to see another snake and the very small fawn twins I usually run across. Good ride.

Today's ride was a triumph of willpower and guilt. Woke up feeling crappy and wasn't going to ride at all. Guilted myself into trying to get in at least 10. At the end of the first loop double secret guilt told me to keep going. Still feeling crappy, but not guilty (much).

Today's ride (thanks to Ginger going down for a mid-morning nap!)

Today's ride was a welcome break from prepping courses and a nice reminder, as I schedule things for November and December, that it's still summer! Bonus: I got to see my snake friend again and snap a pic.

Dr. Eric Ecklund @eecklund.bsky.social · 29/07/2026
Today's ride was a pleasant surprise since I thought the day was going to be a rain out. Strangely, it actually started to spit a little as soon as I pulled in the driveway.

Posting both the crime and the criminal, hoping that her mugshot will earn her a lenient sentence when Charlotte gets home. 24 minutes, by the way. That's all it took.

Today's ride established that a week of supervising the shenanigans of grandchildren and a puppy, as lovely as it was, takes a lot out of me!

Today's ride was later than usual, but between the grandkids visiting and other obligations, it's been tough to get in the saddle!

Today's ride was the first 20+ miler in a while and I'm happy to report that my knees felt pretty good. Today was also a good reminder to not make assumptions about dog breeds. I passed two potties twice with nary a glance. However, a lovely older Golden was going for my throat!

Today's ride was early enough to be merely hot instead of sweltering. Today I broke 2,500 miles and 150 hours of riding since I bought the bike last spring.
