This has long been one of the problems: a complete inability by so many Americans to think beyond their own borders. www.cbc.ca/news/politic...
Matthew Schmidt, an associate professor at the University of New Haven in Connecticut and a former instructor at the U.S. Army War College, said many Americans, including himself, are unaware of how Trump's words affect people in other nations.

"I don't think I have a visceral sense of what Canadians are feeling about the United States," Schmidt said. "We really don't have a sense of the impact of what the president is saying has on other places."

That's a great way to describe how I felt, and I was never even a hockey player.
I assume many Canadians experienced something like the weird cocktail of emotions that buzzed through me that weekend. There was dread, to be sure, because whatever came next would not be good. But there was also a strange relief that bordered on elation: Someone was about to punch me in the face, and I was grinning at them with savage glee in my eyes.
Brightest, on top of it all, was the same feeling that had made me tear up every time I’d heard O Canada over the past 18 months: a patriotic pride so quietly fierce that it sneaked up on me with an almost physical presence.

Well this is kinda funny. Google Finance has been warning me for weeks that it'll be switching to its new system so that it can incorporate AI. The first day they get rid of the option to view the old setup is the day the AI summary discusses fear about AI.
US equity futures slip over artificial intelligence capital expenditures
Major stock index futures fell as market participants reacted negatively to the latest round of corporate earnings from tech heavyweights. Disappointment stemmed primarily from high artificial intelligence spending projections, which weighed heavily on free cash flow metrics and sparked broader concerns regarding the monetization timeline of AI technologies.

Thought of this after reading this. That seems, super easy? www.ctvnews.ca/world/articl...
It would cost $8 billion for Cuba to generate around 93% of its electricity from renewables, meaning it would no longer need to import oil and gas for electricity, according to an April analysis by Cashman. A 100% renewable electricity system would cost $19 billion. “The first threshold breaks the main external lever of US coercion; the second completes the electricity transition,” the report concluded.

What a wild statement to come from someone who subscribes to, and presumably regularly reads, a news outlet like @tanglenews.bsky.social. I just can’t believe someone would respond to that news with such a “ho hum” attitude.
Screenshot from Tangle newsletter on Iran war: “I read the news Saturday morning, thought ‘Oh, so that happened, and have kept forgetting about it since. It's about as relevant to my life as, say, a celebrity death," one respondent said.

The response to a tax on Americans is...a tax on Canadians? www.stcatharinesstandard.ca/politics/fed...

They’re feeling the crunch down there. They have the uncertainty down there, especially in Michigan. They want to tariff us, I say we tariff them back,” he said.

I've been thinking about this. Carney's references to the US in his Davos were really just the same things their own administration has been boasting about for months. But with them, no perceived slights go unpunished. www.cbc.ca/news/politic... from @aaronwherry.bsky.social
Screenshot of CBC story about Mark Carney's Davos speech: "But then it is necessary to ask whether Carney's remarks in Davos were needless, pointless, unjustifiably provocative or insulting — whether it was simply or primarily about scoring "cheap political points." One might also ask how much of the speech — or specifically which parts — the American administration would disagree with."

"No one heard anything, no one saw anything, there are no witnesses" is what the mobster in the movies says when he's clearly hiding something.

Trump at an informal summit in Brussels. No one heard anything, no one saw anything, there are no witnesses, but nothing prevented the POLITICO portal from coming up with lies.”

Trump’s first year back in office has produced just one major piece of legislation, a massive package of tax cuts and energy deregulation — the “One Big Beautiful Bill,” as Trump dubbed it — which Republicans passed using a budgetary maneuver that circumvented the filibuster and allowed for passage with just 51 votes. He has not outlined a major legislative agenda for the rest of his term, governing largely by executive orders.

Anyone know how to turn of the constant AI prompts from Adobe? I turned off all the AI settings I could find, and yet it keeps asking how it can help, even though I thought I was fairly clear with it how it could help.
Screenshot of a conversation with Adobe's AI assistant after it asked how it could help.
Human: "You can't. I don't want to use AI assistant, and I don't want prompts to use it every time I open a PDF."
AI response: "The document does not provide any information about disabling AI assistant prompts in a PDF viewer or Adobe Acrobat. For assistance with this issue, you may need to consult Adobe's official support or settings documentation"

There's probably more evidence for that claim than Trump's www.neurology.org/doi/10.1212/...
Consumption of aspartame, saccharin, acesulfame k, erythritol, sorbitol, and xylitol was associated with a faster decline in global cognition, particularly in memory and verbal fluency domains. Consumption of combined LNCSs in the highest tertiles was associated with a faster decline in verbal fluency and global cognition in participants without diabetes and faster decline in memory and global cognition in participants with diabetes.

A side effect that will kill and displace millions of people in the coming years. That's not a side effect, that's an effect. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...
While on stage Monday, Trump's energy secretary Chris Wright called himself a "climate realist."

"The Trump administration will treat climate change for what it is, a global physical phenomenon that is a side effect of building the modern world," he said. "Everything in life involves trade-offs. Everything."

Farmers have been through Trump’s trade wars before in 2018 and 2019, when he imposed tariffs on China, which retaliated with its own tariffs on U.S. farm products, sending sales tumbling. In response, Trump set up a payment program during his first term to compensate some of the affected farmers. The amount of payments doled out was about equivalent to the revenue the United States collected from the tariffs on Chinese imports.
