I remain convinced that the biggest barrier to an adult human adopting cycling for transport is a lack of imagination. It took me quite a while - even after I restarted commuting by bike - to realise that cycles could also do awesome things like carry children, shopping, ladders(!), etc. Car brain.

Big, burly men that drive to the gym: "You are not going to carry a ladder on a bike..." Me, a quite dainty/small male human:

It’s remarkable how many people can move on a street when those people don’t feel the need to always take a massive car with them. Mobility in cities is about space.
Busy European street with buses filled with people in a long line of people on bikes, waiting for the light to change in a separated, protected bike lane. Imagine if all those people or each in a separate car.

As as designer of very little note, I find it quite staggering to see the design choices these massive companies make. Constantly missing open goals. Very revealing when seeing who is driving these things as well (in terms of taste)

I am interested in how we could separate out a reduction for road freight, and increase rail freight at the same time. Can that even be done?

Gave a tour of our heat pump setup to a knowledgable local yesterday, who is making the swap soon. Most disappointing thing I hear from those trying to learn is the lengths gas engineers go to to talk them out of it! Latest story was that the BUS grant had closed for new applications. Clown-like

Easy enough to do the shopping with the right bike/attachments. Did it myself for years (have to admit I'm in a 'drive to Aldi' phase). It was a short post but the context is massively 'increased costs for people' vs 'things like cycling can save people thousands of pounds'

In our first few months of owning an EV I was happy to see an average efficiency of just over 4 miles/kWh. Pretty good! Compare that to our e-bike, which I've just seen in our service report: "An efficiency of 7.52 Wh/km converts to approximately ***82.6 miles per kWh***" 😮🤯

It's a pickle for politicians, that's for sure! Lots of jobs that rely on manufacturing luxury vehicles that very few people actually need. Destroyers of the planet. Etc. JLR should pivot to 100% electric agricultural and/or military vehicle production. Possibly buses. Ya know, useful stuff.
