A huge mistake early in my career? Assuming that students knew I was thinking these things and not needing to actually say them aloud. The course-correct: being intentional about saying these things aloud—and also remembering that the meaning is lost when I don't align my actions with them, too.

The Hope Tag captures what the learning meant to each student. They can leave it as a digital comment or a Post-it note on their test. Ask students: What's something you didn't know before that you understand now? Or: How did you overcome a challenge during this learning?
