Intelligence must draw on memory. The mind must not simply compile data — as an algorithm now does more quickly than we can — but recall lived experiences, which contain depths of meaning that only the human soul can recognize, and connect more deeply with the goodness of these experiences. Everything that is good begins "with the Spirit" and thus possesses a breath, a dynamism and a sense of communion that, once experienced, are engraved upon the heart.

So many wonderful inventions in Pratchett's work. My favourite: the concept that any library is every library, and they are all mystically connected by the weight of accumulated knowledge bending spacetime into corridors that librarians (or indeed orangutans) could traverse.

A colour photo showing two of the trilithons at Stonehenge, with a few other stones visible. In the foreground is a sign saying "No Admittance", while in between the two upright sarsens of one trilithon is an orange and white traffic cone.

Lovely thread of images Mike. It's a pity that Google doesn't provide a public schedule of when satellite imagery for an area is updated. That would be useful for #archaeologists looking to plan e.g. update of Historic Environment Records 🏺

Millions of people live in seats that have been represented by the same party since WW2. If Andy Burnham really wants to spread power evenly across the country, this must include changing the voting system so that no community is taken for granted. Our Manchester activist Abbie writes:
