I am begging my fellow Canadians to take a break for a second from obsessing about American corruption to focus on our home grown versions. Ford is a corrupt crony goon who has done countless shady backroom deals. He wants to remove one of our most powerful tools to hold him accountable. Fuck that!

The University of Ottawa Student Union is off with their skate/LRT race! They're calling attention to the need for big improvements to transit. The time to beat UOttawa -> Carleton by train is 35 minutes!

And for the record, I called in to get off these mailings in November, but was told then that the next mailing was already on its way and they couldn't take my name off for 3 months.

@redcrosscanada.bsky.social please stop sending these mailed packages out. It is bad for the environment, wastes my donation dollars and ends up in the trash 30 seconds after arriving in the mail.

I really wanted to see the original article, but only the corrected version is there and the Wayback machine has nothing. :( www.ft.com/content/9a1e... Interesting article though!

Journalism officially goes non-profit

The Salt Lake Tribune’s new status as a public charity is significant, but it’s no panacea for the struggling local paper and new challenges will come with it.

Thank you for posting a map with each province! While it doesn't show up in this map, the views of each province tend to be quite different, much like the States.

@baseball-reference.com Why is Orlando Hernandez's Cuban stats page not tied to his main page? Many other players of that era have both linked together.

@shifter.info A request for a video someday... home winter bike storage. I've never been able to figure out how to store bikes once they can't be sitting outside in a bike rack anymore (and yes, I know I shouldn't leave bikes out in the rain either). Are there any innovative ways to do things?

So the first part of your post is correct. This tests for freshness. But if an egg floats to the top, that just means it is old, not unsafe. Similarly, an egg could contain salmonella, but sit on the bottom. This test has nothing to do with safety.

Holy hell. Not that the City should be making profits, but I can think of 100 different ways to have guaranteed positive revenue streams on smaller (and more necessary) projects within 5 years instead of 25. Like even affordable housing built by the City would definitely turn a profit in less time.

Do they need losses by all three teams or just one of them? "Each" contradicts "or"...

After having kids go to Elgin St Public School for many years, it is nice to finally see something happening on this front. As a cyclist I would have preferred Gladstone all the way, but as a parent, encouraging more kids to bike to school (ie less parents to drive them) is awesome. Thanks Ariel!

My colleague, Councillor Bradley, tabled an excellent inquiry at City Council this week asking the City Manager to provide the data that will show why this move is needed. Unless this was an evidence-based decision, we’ll review the decision as soon as possible.

So the Jays will never play in this game due to beIng the "Canadian" team. But I would love to see a similar game start up in Saskatchewan. They could call it the WP Kinsella Classic, given that he is Canadian and wrote the book FoD was based on. And the farm field would be canola instead of corn.

I know you guys really want to make this game, but pulling out and apologizing to your fan base is the right thing to do here. I've got a dozen of your games, but this will definitely be a deal breaker for buying another.

Heck, it'll be simple to drive downtown and park in one of a hundred lots and walk from there to the game too. Basically the same distance as walking one of the parking lots at the CTC.

Ed Janes @edjanes.ca · 19/05/2025

Lol. Did you miss the words "public transit" before cycling and walking? It'll be super simple to use STO to get to LeBreton.

Can I just complain about the colour scheme of this? I know it isn't yours originally, but I can never remember if red is left-handed or switch. And I'm not colour blind, but the blue sometimes confuses me with the black. Wouldn't an (r), (s) and (l) be way easier?

So what you're saying is that the Democrats should start some sort of anti-tariff movement... You could call it The Tea Party Movement maybe just so that everyone is clear on what they stand for...

Wow! Great news! Amazing it took so many years to kill something that never made any sense. I hope the Walkley stretch gets killed someday soon too. The City needs greenspace, not roads!

030

Ed Janes @edjanes.ca · 24/03/2025

Yeah, it'll definitely be hard, but there isn't a better time to do this than when you have a stable minority for a few years.

Ed Janes @edjanes.ca · 24/03/2025

It's blue/red now instead of red/blue, thank you! Also, someday, I'll calculate the beer and popcorn I drink/eat in a year to see if any promised tax cuts would cover that. That said, I just want better healthcare and funding for trains. Could we just spend money on that instead of tax cuts?

The Supreme Court has never ruled on FPTP and "consensus among Canadians" and "consensus among political parties" has been blamed, but never the need for a constitutional amendment. Not much written on this recently, but this article is worth a read: policyoptions.irpp.org/magazines/ju...

The Supreme Court could interpret its 2014 opinion on Senate reform to allow Parliament to change the electoral system without provincial consent.

I still wonder why the key promise they wanted from the Liberals was enacting Pharmacare rather than finally abolishing first past the post. We would never have been talking about the possibility of a Conservative majority (or Liberal) if ranked ballot was a thing.

Duel for Middle Earth (the 7 Wonders Duel sequel) does something rare for me. It is equally good as 7 Wonders Duel, but doesn't "replace" it. I own both and will gladly play either depending on my mood and whether my counterpart prefers one theme over another. Something for your list to try...
