Editor Cat-Zhang faces yet another #retraction of a paper whose authors proclaim that since it originally passed peer review, it means it's okay and not their fault at the same time #ScientificPublishing #ResearchIntegrity

We will only see more of those. And many authors will disagree with these retractions. But you can also look at the problem like this: pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC... And that looks rather different #ScientificPublishing #ResearchIntegrity

In this article, we discuss the growing problem of hallucinated citations produced by Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) in scholarly research and writing. We argue that GenAI hallucinated cit...

It's a decent notice done by someone who chose expediency over comprehensiveness. Nothing wrong with that, if it gets the paper out of the record fasr (esp. that not journal's role to police misconduct).

EU friends: pls be aware that you cannot share certain types of data on Zenodo because Zenodo does actually not comply with GDPR. @lakens.bsky.social 's blog has a great summary. It's a pretty serious reason to avoid Zenodo for researchers who work with data, if I understand the issue correctly.

This response to feedback seems awfully human... Esp. if combined with unchanging claims (i.e. we have definitely invented the time machine, the only limitations is that it does not travel through time) #OverlyHonestEditor
Excerpt from the paper which reads: "The agents did not creatively respond to feedback about poor research design. We instructed the agents
to send their papers for AI review—both to a subagent and to external tools such as refine.ink— to assess the
quality and progress of their research. Across dozens of rounds of revision, the agent’s self-review never once
returned an acceptance (see Figure 3). These reviews surfaced many of the issues that the human reviewers later
raised (see Table 4). But the agents did not creatively address the feedback from the AI reviews; when faced with
negative feedback they responded by adding caveats to existing findings, and continued to pursue unpromising
research directions."

Presumably the same caveat as the previous manual analysis applies, and that is that it likely shows that people tend to overstate their claims from the start, and then fix it with textual sleighs of hand (or minor control experiments shoved into appendix)...

The utopia would be decentralised disruption. But we tried it with the social media - a much easier nut to crack - and ppl just couldn't get over kerflunks and bumblurts. So I unfortunately don't see that. /
Mastodon post that explains Mastodon:
"Every Mastodon explanation is like "It's very simple, your account is part of a kerflunk, and each kerflunk can talk to each other as part of a bumblurt. At the moment everyone you flurgle can see your bloops but only people IN your kerflunk can quark your nerps. Kinda like email."
