This response to feedback seems awfully human... Esp. if combined with unchanging claims (i.e. we have definitely invented the time machine, the only limitations is that it does not travel through time) #OverlyHonestEditor
Excerpt from the paper which reads: "The agents did not creatively respond to feedback about poor research design. We instructed the agents
to send their papers for AI review—both to a subagent and to external tools such as refine.ink— to assess the
quality and progress of their research. Across dozens of rounds of revision, the agent’s self-review never once
returned an acceptance (see Figure 3). These reviews surfaced many of the issues that the human reviewers later
raised (see Table 4). But the agents did not creatively address the feedback from the AI reviews; when faced with
negative feedback they responded by adding caveats to existing findings, and continued to pursue unpromising
research directions."

The utopia would be decentralised disruption. But we tried it with the social media - a much easier nut to crack - and ppl just couldn't get over kerflunks and bumblurts. So I unfortunately don't see that. /
Mastodon post that explains Mastodon:
"Every Mastodon explanation is like "It's very simple, your account is part of a kerflunk, and each kerflunk can talk to each other as part of a bumblurt. At the moment everyone you flurgle can see your bloops but only people IN your kerflunk can quark your nerps. Kinda like email."

Whether you think situation is dire or not, the report suggests four potential ways this may go. Realistic Editor Cat-ski suspects it will be the managed evolution because, well, regression to the mean. What Editor Cat-mondo would like to see is the professional transformation... /
Graph outlining for potential paths for future of peer review: managed evolution (most likely), system strain and selective collapse (underappreciated risk), professional transformation (high effort), and decentralised disruption (a wild card).

Very good outlook at the future of science, and publishing, from an outgoing editor @seva.bsky.social : hegemon.substack.com/p/the-age-of... I just want to cynically note that many papers were sound, narrowly useful, and wildly uninteresting already before LLMs #OverlyHonestEditor

We apologise for delays in #PeerReview due to a shortage of editors caused by a significant leaf fall. Leaves, famously, are editors' kryptonite #OverlyHonestEditor In other words, the autumn is here.

An old tumblr post with a title "Everyone will not just" which reads:

If your solution to some problem relies on "If everyone would just..." then you do not have a solution. Everyone is not going to just. At no time in the history of the universe has everyone just, and they're not going to start now.
