Ahem. There's quite a lot of buses; see screenshot below www.lothianbuses.com/wp-content/u... plus other operators from the wider Lothians. They are free if you have www.transport.gov.scot/concessionar... What they don't have is bus priority in the hospital grounds, so you get stuck in congestion.

In the short term, CEC could do this, from democracy.edinburgh.gov.uk/documents/s5... but only if ScotGov/Transport Scotland gets their act together on bus infrastructure funding.

All parties have 2 each, surely (though why @cllrconorsavage.bsky.social name's missing this month is a mystery). Except the SNP have 3, one of whom changes more often than a quick-change artiste trying to avoid being tailed.

@cllrcmiller.bsky.social Motion to Council, 27 August: "All Council documents will refer to private tourist coaches as Charabancs" en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charaba... * verification @threadinburgh.scot ? *
In Jersey, a char-à-banc is legally different from an “omnibus” (bus) - a bus picks up and sets down passengers along its route, while a char-à-banc picks up only from specified departure points and sets down at a pre-determined destination or destinations. Char-à-bancs generally provide tours of the island.

From an email last week...
2. Making things worse are the kind of delays that often crop up. We cite the railway bridge strike at Cameron Toll earlier this week; an issue across the UK, but which simply should not happen. Drivers of high vehicles are responsible for knowing their vehicle height (it's displayed in the cab!) and the suitability of routes they use.

North Bridge. An email to various bods at CEC, LB, etc. (See also ALT)
EBUG was taken aback to read this article in the Evening News No plans to reinstate bus stops on North Bridge when route reopens fully to traffic

As you will know, we have previously argued against the blanket removal of bus stops, while accepting that a few are sited overly close together.

However, in recent times it seems the removal of stops has focussed on those which are clearly convenient for passengers, not on the redundant. For example:

Leven St, West Maitland St, and, (temporarily) outside the Cameo last year.

Then there's the shambles on George IV Bridge, and Great Junction St.

We could also cite the plans for Leith Connections phase 3...etc etc.

The logic of having no stops on the main (parapetted) bridge itself is understood. But it means there's a clear need for stops at the ends of the bridge, i.e. between the High St and the Scotsman Hotel, and near/opposite the Balmoral Hotel. We think the closest stop for right-turning buses on Princes St is not even outside Apple's shop, because it is difficult to manoeuvre buses from there into the right turn lane.

We have, of course, previously noted the benefit of removing most general traffic from the east end of Princes St. Which it was, apparently successfully, before being reinstated 'temporarily' during the Trams to Newhaven works.

As an aside, I presume the fanciful idea of lifts from Waverley Station to North Bridge is firmly off the agenda?

*sigh* For the avoidance of doubt, and the benefit of Evening News readers, this is an extract of a briefing by Council Officers for the Waverley Valley workshop in June:
Summary: The Circulation Plan "Future Streets Framework", is linked to the City Mobility Plan and City Centre Transformation Strategy. It classifies Princes St as a primary corridor for buses, place, walking, and tram. Most of Princes St is classified as a local cycling corridor (rather than primary or secondary), though the importance of space for cycling is identified in the eastern end.

Edinburgh Bus Users Group @edinburghbug.bsky.social · 17/07/2026
These articles seem somewhat out of date. The current iteration of the CMP doesn't feature 'to not through'. In fact, at the cited June workshop, CEC Officers circulated a briefing stating:
In summary The Circulation Plan "Future Streets Framework", is linked to the City Mobility Plan and City Centre Transformation Strategy. It classifies Princes St as a primary corridor for buses, place, walking, and tram. Most of Princes St is classified as a local cycling corridor (rather than primary or secondary), though the importance of space for cycling is identified in the eastern end.
