I made a shadow box for the trinkets I collected during Metro Surge. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it- probably keep it in a drawer or on a closet shelf. The time period feels like something that should be confined to history and displayed behind glass... not in our cities. #Minneapolis

I made videos on Instagram showing people how to flush tear gas out of their eyes. People who don't live in Minnesota commented that if we would stop interfering with police, we wouldn’t need this. My coworker got tear gassed riding his bicycle from his house to the gym. He wasn't an activist

The image is from a famous photo of Madrid in 1937 after the city had withstood an attack by Franco’s forces. The citizens had been helped by the arrival of some units of the International Brigades many of whom were Americans. These Americans were later demonized during the McCarthy era for being premature anti-fascists.
We have translated some of the wording of the banner. NO PASARAN translates literally as THEY SHALL NOT PASS. The bottom writing on the banner says that MADRID WILL BE TOMB OF FASCISM. We used a little poetic license to hope that MINNESOTA WILL BE THE TOMB OF FASCISM.
We have to keep up the fight for the long-term. We can’t get tired. When we heard the Becca Good, the widow of Renee Good say, “They had guns we had whistles...” It reminded us of what was said after democracy lost the Spanish Civil War. “We had better music, but they had better guns and more of them.”
We can’t outshoot them and we shouldn’t try but we can outsmart them.

My favorite deeply unwell guardian

the exo gets closer to the ghost, saying "im just messing around... besides...." and then he grabs the ghost and squeezes it hard, suddenly, saying "it doesnt really count unless i kill you." The exo's ghost is in the background, and it says "chariot, enough. you are going to get yourself into trouble."

the exo lets go of the white ghost, who moves away shouting "you're fucked man, you're fucked!" the purple ghost comes back closer to chariot, and is silent.

In a robot apocalypse, I'd make capsules of cyanoacrylate and baking soda, separated into compartments. I'd fire them from a pneumatic rifle. When the capsule bursts, the cyanoacrylate would react with the baking soda and polymerize instantly, locking up the robot's joints. #ScienceBehindSciFi

Project Hail Mary is the reverse of Lightfall, in terms of storytelling. While Lightfall focused on establishing small, technical details over developing the story, Project Hail Mary presented a well-paced plot full of technical tidbits that don't hold up to examination.

Lightfall focused hard on the small, technical details of building its setting: how the city of Neomuna developed, how it was powered, how it was augmented with Vex technology... all while rushing the pace of the story; throwing information at the audience faster than most people are able to process it and neglecting to develop the characters in a way that connects them to the audience. The technical writing was amazing. The story writing was rushed.

Project Hail Mary is the opposite: it has a great premise, a well-paced delivery of the overarching plot, and interesting characters that get the audience invested... along with technical tidbits that don't make sense once one begins exploring them. I could point to several examples of this, but here's one to summarize: Near the end, where the ship is spinning out of control and Rocky breaks out of its little hamster ball, exposing itself to Earth-like atmosphere that's toxic to it in order to save Grace's life. Awesome character moment! From a technical standpoint, though... Rocky's atmosphere is pressurized ammonia, right? So when it broke out of its hamster ball, it released a bunch of pressurized ammonia into Grace's ship. Rocky would have killed Grace faster by trying to save him.
