When I lived in Glasgow this was one of my favourite parts of the city. Queer bookshops are incredibly important community spaces that need to be protected, especially by those of us who have built our careers on expanding knowledge about the gender expansive past. Solidarity from Dublin.

Meta's data centre in Clonee, Co Meath uses approx 571 megalitres a year, with usage increasing in hot periods. This is roughly twice the total water that a nearby town like Dunboyne (8000 ppl) would use in a year.

Ok but why does the reconstruction appear to have eye shadow, mascara, and lip gloss? I'm not saying it's historically impossible for that to be the case, but I do find it strange that while reconstructing and trying to humanise this figure the result was so particularly gendered. It reads as weird.

Comic panel of Donald Duck and a wide-eyed young Mickey Mouse. Donald's speech bubble: "Democrats should do a huge middle class tax cut to address affordability." Mickey's speech bubble: "Fool that you are, for you treat taxation as a burden rather than the means by which our burdens are eased. Behold a civilization rich in private wealth yet starved of public provision, where every man owns what his grandfathers could not imagine and yet trembles at the thought of how he will weather an illness or loss of livelihood. Will you fight for an affirmative vision of broad contribution and universal benefit? Or will you perish like a dog?"

On the fuel protests today, I am frustrated by the fact that this level of disruption has proven to be possible, but it has been avoided over the last years of war, genocide, and ecological destruction. There are reasons for people to be angry, furious even, and yet these tactics are wasted on this.

Going from reading the Kinsey Report reject that gender identity and sexual identity are exclusive towards each other to reading the judgement from the UK today that on the first page makes a distinction between 'women' and 'the trans community' (as if they are necessarily separate) is fucking wild.

If one more academic website introduces a shitty AI tool to poorly sum up someone's book or anything similar I'll chuck my laptop out my office window. My job is to carefully read people's work so I can qualify their analysis with my insights about the sources, not to be force-fed a bot's bad essay.

I'm kind of tired of events that are designed to be Queer inclusive where there's only a small handful of trans women present, if we're there at all. If you are running the space and less than 5% of attendees are trans women or similar, there's a serious problem. We're not hard to find, so find us.

I completely agree with Dr. Dhomhnaill that therapy notes should not be used in court. I do want to add that psychological services around GBV can be harmful for other reasons as well. Psychiatry is heteronormative and Queer Mad people's concerns are often dangerously ignored or belittled by psychs.

Also learn about radical history where you live. It's easy to think all the major groups and actions in the past have happened in New York, London, or Toronto, but wherever people have faced oppression there has been resistance. The best way to develop your struggle is to learn from home and abroad.

There are some people trying this in Ireland. Problems include: Ireland doesn't have asylum, it has EU international protection status that's a bit different, and US citizens have enormous passport privilege compared to other applicants, so they have other ways to get residency most refugees don't.

Gay liberation activists' work to depathologize homosexuality was positive because it called out serious abuses of power and fought for a holistic view of well being. Unfortunately, many tried to distance themselves from other Mad people as well. Queer lib should mean bodily autonomy for us all.

The General Election is next week and WE NEED YOU! We are asking you, as sex workers and allies, to talk to the future leaders of the country about the rights of sex workers. We’ve made it easy and put together this handy, printable PDF. sexworkersallianceireland.org/2024/11/ask-...
Ask your Candidate
General Election 2024

1 Did you know that when sex workers work together for safety, it is considered illegal under the law?
2 Are you aware that almost all of the people who have been prosecuted under our brothel-keeping laws are young, migrant women? Not traffickers, not pimps but the very people that our laws are supposed to “rescue”. Did you realise that many more
sex workers have been arrested than their clients, due to brothel-keeping laws?
3 Do you think the sex work laws in Ireland are successful? Court statistics show that there have been only a handful of prosecutions of clients.
4 A sex worker was murdered in Limerick last year. Are you aware that since the laws changed in 2017 there has been a 92% increase in violent crime against sex workers? Less than 1% of sex workers report crimes against them to Gardai.
5 Will you listen to sex workers when they say they feel less safe under the law, and have faced increased violence, threats, murder and stigma?
6 Are you aware that the law is currently being reviewed? Do you support the Department of Justice finishing this review internally, jeopardising the whole exercise?

One of the things about Irish politics that I missed the most while in Scotland is the singing. While we're not exactly Joe Hill, breaking out into 'Power to the People', 'Óró Sé do Bheatha Abhaile', or that new one for Palestine protests with the counting always makes me feel connected to the mass.
