The Weekly Planet is a great podcast for many reasons, but not least is Nick Mason’s constant skewering of the somewhat suspect themes in Tom King’s writing.

Sometimes I think about the guy I saw in some forum who said, when Duke Nukem Forever finally released and was receiving a critical drubbing, predicted it would become a cult classic fan favourite in time.

Our house is a very, very, very fine house.

A hero's final rest. #lego #bionicle

A colourful drawing of line art and watercolour of bionicle Toa Tahu. The Red Orange one. Resting against a tree in the woods. At his feet are the 5 masks of all the other original bionicles heroes. A Spot of sunshine comes through the trees. Wide enough to form a circle in the shape of Tahu and ailluminate him in the otherwise dark forest. Toa is covvered in rust and dust. Leafs spout from his shoulders and mask. His plating looks old and battered. One may wonder how long he has been here.

One Piece villain with absurdly sad 4 chapter backstory:

Really wonderful moment in a training session the other day when a facilitator asked how many people in the room use AI on a day to day basis, and when only one person raised their hand, was completely derailed from the point they clearly intended to make about the ubiquity of AI.

Weird commute in this morning, got all turned around.

A series of posters in a faux 1950s style from control resonant. They have iconography of the federal bureau of control, and read, from left to right:
look up before crossing the road
Do not approach repeating pigeons
Keep away from the red
Do as you’re told don’t eat the mold
Buildings may relocate without notice

Godzilla fighting a giant CGI monster who wants to replicate and then replace him is maybe a little on the nose for a movie released in response to the Emmerich film from the year before, but it’s still great!

It’s actually childish to hope for better things. It’s actually very mature to recognise that things have to be shit. It’s sensible grown-up politics, guys.

As a pragmatic centrist, I read the Niemöller poem differently. After each group mentioned I pencil in what percentage of the population they are, and if it’s a small number I cross off their names as disposable. Poetry is fine but math wins elections!!

It’s important to be honest on these things.

A screenshot of a survey which reads as follows:
Which ONE, if any, of the following statements BEST describes your current career path?
I have a dream job in mind and know what steps to take to get there
I have a dream job in mind but don't know how to get there
I have a career path in mind but I'm still considering other options
I'm upskilling to pursue my dream job
I already have a job and want to continue to grow within my current career
I already have a job but want to change careers
I don't have/ want to think about my career path
Other

I don’t play a tremendous amount of roguelites, but one of the things I found… I dunno, odd is that whenever I had a successful run, I always chalked it up to having a OP or cheesy build, where it was less skill and more dumb luck that got me through the final fight.

Eddie @eddiejay.bsky.social · 11/09/2026

Not being American I didn’t experience this first-hand, but I do remember in 2002, my first experience of Snopes was an article debunking an email going around stating Islamic hijackings could be stopped by putting a live pig on every plane because “killing pigs prevented entry to paradise”

Ignoring that the variety show format is great still, you could always just update it and make it a late night show. Yeah I know that was the premise of the ABC show and it was good, dammit!

I think it’s quite a bold choice to preserve the exaggerated art direction from the N64 while simultaneously adding a really high level of fidelity and detail into the designs, and I’m not 100% sure it works here.

Dracula has been on my list forever, and now it’s in the pile. Also 1984! Getting through the classics slowly.

A stack of books on a bedside table. From top to bottom:
The rubiyaat of Omar Khayyam
The inverted world by Christopher priest
The house on the borderland by William Hope hodgson
There are rivers in the sky by Elif shafak
The secret of laughter by shusha guppy
Nineteen eighty four by George Orwell
The little book of mushrooms by door
The brief wondrous life of Oscar wao by Junot díaz
The Overstory by Richard powers
