perhaps you should regulate yourself, or ask for help in doing so if you cannot, instead of screaming this kind of insane allegation at strangers

has the OM-5 sensor, OM video, and OM menus. does not spark joy, imo i think if i had to buy OM, I’d get the OM-3. I suspect we’ll see a PEN+ next year with OM-3 guts

than I’ll be able to read in my life for that. I don’t think people doing original, creative work have much to worry about with LLMs. If we ever get to that point, the only good path is UBI/fully automated gay space communism, giving everyone the time and space to create for any reason at all.

if they'd stuck even a tiny corner EVF on that Z5IIC, I could get a walk-around camera down to Z30 size
100
Ed @ed3d.net · 20h
the DX 16-50 f3.5-6.3 is 32mm long. the 12-32mm f3.5-5.6 panasonic that I have for my M43 stuff is 24mm long. the FF 26mm Viltrox prime that I usually have on a walk-around camera is 23.8mm long. full-frame lenses can be huge, but smaller ones are getting more practical

yeah, I'm selling the Zf, and I got the Z50 II like-new for $700 with lenses (body is $900 on KEH) as a flyer, to see if my wife likes it more. because she wants to shoot my Z6 III, which is my Actual Camera, and she can't have it.
110
Ed @ed3d.net · 20h
you forgot the 3D printers
130
Ed @ed3d.net · 20h
I agree; I got the Z50II _cheap_ and will probably not keep it. Outside of compsct point and shoots, a body without IBIS just isn’t my jam The FF bodies aren't _that_ big, even. I dunno where my 26mm is, but it's about 2/3 the size of the 28 on the Zf right now. Lot heavier though.

(I was hand-holding 3-second exposures in 50mph wind gusts with the OM-3. That camera is an insane little dude, I just wish the menus and the controls didn't horrify me.)

Ed @ed3d.net · 20h
this is a prop(t)er grift, you're right
160
Ed @ed3d.net · 20h
Nikon will, of course, not learn from Panasonic's L10 or anything Olympus makes, will release a Z70 that does not have IBIS but does have a 36MP sensor or whatever, and be surprised that it does not sell.
240
Ed @ed3d.net · 20h
I don't think I mind APS-C, it's only one stop, but APS-C in mirrorless is tiiiiiiny. my Z50II is not a "small camera" and it fits in a coat pocket with the 16-50 DX kit lens or a 26mm prime. Nikon DX Z also doesn't have IBIS, but it does have VR in very small lenses - again, travel stuff
230
Ed @ed3d.net · 21h
modern optics cannot be slept on. they do impossible things. (some of it literally isn't possible. there ARE a lot of corrections going on in camera now.) but you can get some ludicrously small primes from third parties that are just ridiculous. for everything else there's my tamron 35-100 f2.8

Ed @ed3d.net · 21h
entirely fair, and your phone is totally adequate anyway. but a lot of folks bought OM-5's early on and got mad because somehow OM System managed to take a very respectable sensor and make it very sad.
000
Ed @ed3d.net · 21h
the better Nikon DSLRs (I don't know Canon) absolutely have adequate quality. they still ship the same 24MP sensor in modern cameras. but every Nikon DSLR body I think I'd buy is kinda massive, and lenses, while cheap, are either huge or a large compromise. casual yes, travel not so sure.

Ed @ed3d.net · 21h
oh. and if you care at all about video, even short clips etc, absolutely not the OM-5 or OM PEN. OM-3 or OM-1. The video is busted on their non-stacked sensors
110
Ed @ed3d.net · 21h
I'm guessing you care about a viewfinder if you come from film cameras, which rules out the other rec I usually make, which would be a Lumix S9. Lumix is the only brand who has a trick up their sleeve (Live LUT) that competes with Fujifilm's film simulations for getting nice out-of-camera pictures.

(I have owned like...six M43 cameras in my life, and have another in a cart right now, but I am willing to inconvenience myself on the camera's behalf because I'm a nut)
220
Ed @ed3d.net · 21h
Fantastic build quality, godawful and infuriating menus, great image quality in-daylight-only and everything else is lens-switching or heavy compromise. Right now I think I would lean towards an X-T50 or an X-T5 as a travel camera, if you don't have prior attachments.
150
Ed @ed3d.net · 21h
Then as much as I love M43, I'm not sure on that. OM System has advantages for the torrential downpours, they build cameras like tanks. People walk through literal waterfalls with OM-3's. But the image quality outside of favorable conditions is *challenging*. Doable, but a lot of work.

Ed @ed3d.net · 21h
also, how much do you find yourself in torrential downpours
