I had an enlightening conversation with a constituent that inevitably drifted into Green politics, and a follow-up email pointed me to this: jezzascuriousblog.blogspot.com/2025/11/one-... A peace built on subjugating people, quelling dissent and debate can never be a lasting peace.

In 1976, local government spending made up 20% of GDP. In 2026, this is around 4%. 1976 was the year of the lowest level of inequality on record in the UK. We need to properly fund local authorities - and that doesn't mean sucking genuine local decision-making into distant combined authorities

Sure, reflecting; earlier you noted 4/5 self-identifying as white/black mixed are recorded as black. To me that erases mixed identity. Your OP asked why orgs insist on SDE. I think this shows why. So what role do you suggest for SDE? Primary with EA as fallback, or interchangeable?

Following the vote on the anti-Zionist policy at Green Party Conference, the 5 Green MPs, the Leader and Co-Deputy Leaders have issued a joint statement
A green background with white text that reads: Joint Statement As Greens, we will always uphold universal human rights. We will never tolerate any form of discrimination or harassment. We will continue to stand in opposition to genocide, ethnic cleansing, apartheid and the illegal occupation. We will continue to call out the heinous crimes of the Netanyahu government. And we will continue to work to ensure that the Green Party is an anti-racist party in every way. We know there is no conflict between supporting the rights of Palestinians and the rights of Jewish people. Yes, and later Equality Act sits alongside that too,but SDE not specifically written into that, just self identification, I think. Soz, Javid... it becomes a blur, there've been so many.

Granted, May's operational reforms were reversed under Patel, but the recording has endured - because of older roots from the Lawrence requirements. The loss of community triggers, however, for continuous improvement, was tragic.

Maybe because of (or in part) due to the excellent work done by Theresa May et. al. way back when. But, I'd be interested to see if that difference holds true with non-Met.

Maybe because it flows from the Stephen Lawrence Inquiry? Required police to record SDE of people stop and searched. Responding directly to concerns about officer error and profiling. The 2010 EA reinforces this, resting on how individuals identify themselves, not how they are perceived by others.

Methodology matters, but don't lose sight of the problem. Even with corrected Census data, black people are still stopped at about 4x the rate of white people. Two-thirds of all searches find nothing. The disparity is what needs fixing.

No - the opposite. I support the sanctions. The UN database has existed since 2020, successive UK governments opposed its publication. Now, despite Andy Burnham's defence of them, six years on and no listed company has faced any action. Why?

So it's GREEN for GO on the by-election campaign as I begin the long slog to win a place back on the District Council serving the community that I love. I have represented Rodborough on the District Council before and I am proud of my record in service to the Ward in that time.
Campaign leaflet featuring a picture of a man wearing glasses and a brown corduroy baseball cap. He has a grey beard, is wearing a blue jacket and is holding a green Green Party Rosette.
