Something I love to do is buy orginal art from indie creators, frame it, and hang it on my wall. These are the two most recent additions to my collection. They are orginals by one of the artists behind Hinterlight.

As much as I would love to build an infinite library of TTRPGs from across the world, my basement is finite in size as is my budget. It makes me sad that I have to start being choosey where I send my money. But, also happy knowing there are so many people out there living their truth.

It is interesting to start to see how I like to write these reviews evolve. I am trying to make them informative but also politely critical when it is warranted. I am a big fan of being polite and kind to everyone, regardless of medium. A goal of mine is to die with lots of friends and no enemies.

I am starting to figure out that I like to be detailed in my write ups. To the point of writing about ~2.5k words for shorter zine reviews, and 3K or more words for book sized reviews. I have no idea if that is 'too long' but I feel it is sufficient to say what I want to.

I am thinking about actually making use of the large unread collection of Dungeon Magazines I have, and writing a review on one or two of the adventures contained within once a month as an ongoing series starting with the earliest issues I have. I wonder if people would find that interesting.

It would be fun to either read about how how the art for the covers of dragon magazine and dungeon magazine evolved over the ~40 years they were around. An evolution from classical fantasy to more dungeon punk art and the influences and culture in ttrpgs that drove those changes.

I am preaching to the choir on this but art appreciation is an under taught skill in schools of all levels. If we are going to be a real civilization and not simply a consumer society we must actually teach people how to talk about art and thus appreciate it on a level beyond something is pretty.

I need to re-read my college art appreciation text book, I am finding my vocabulary limited when trying to talk about art in TTRPGs. I recently read a zine and had a deeply emotional reaction to it in a manner similar to what I had when I first saw Francisco Goya's "Saturn Devouring his Son"

I've rewritten this section a billion times, and will probably rewrite it six or seven more before the game is done. But as it stands, it's a pretty good answer to the question, "What is Purgatory Limits?" #rpg #ttrpg #backerkit
A block of text from Purgatory Limits. The section is titled, "What Is It?". It reads:

Purgatory Limits is an urban horror-fantasy roleplaying game. More specifically, it’s a citycrawl—abstract dungeon exploration through a city that hates you. It’s about the past and how it lingers in the world like a physical substance—how lingering in the past can poison the present.
It’s about shame and disgust and repressed desires—how one navigates their ugly feelings when they’re forced out into the open. It’s about being forced to change in the face of ever-mounting suffering—making sacrifices and violating your own rules to keep existing. It’s about trauma—the way being triggered can feel like the whole world is falling apart—the way our society is built to trigger you over and over again.
It’s about gambling, and how exciting it is; it’s about gambling, and how damaging it is.

I sometimes hear/see people complain about being the forever GM. I don't really feel the need to do this. For me, GMing is a form of taking care of my friend group, one that I find very personally fulfilling. Does anyone else get this kinda fulfillment from running games for their friends?
