Morbius, Madame Web, Kraven all didn’t work… surely THIS is what the people want

Wow, how many shows are there currently in production about people hunkered underground after some kind of apocalyptic event? I count at least three which feels like a lot for a very specific log line

iPhone’s “offload apps” to save space feature is great — until it offloads things like Lyft or AAA that I may be in a dead zone when I need them. These are the robots coming for our jobs? Come on

Played a bit of Control Resonant - up through the first boss and opening credits. I’m into it so far!

I replayed Samus Returns and finally appreciated that game for what it is, but AM2R is the real deal

I am once again trying to play through the original Metroid. A game I’ve been playing for over 30 years and have never finished, despite it blossoming into one of my favorite series. We’ll see how it goes…

It’s a bummer that so far reactions to Control Resonant are mixed, but I’ll be checking it out day one to support Remedy at the very least.

Been thinking a lot about fan mods, ROM hacks, PC decomps, etc lately and it’s kind of an interesting thing. To me, the Samus Returns 60 fps mod makes the original game even better, and I’ve enjoyed a bunch of PC port/remakes like Hoverbat’s Zelda II, Majora’s Mask Recomp, randomizers, etc.

Started replaying Super Metroid (because Metroid Ravenous has me back on my bullshit again) and every time I revisit it, I am reminded how spectacular it is. The physics are a little floaty but otherwise I have almost no complaints. (And I know there are fan mods to change the physics, but… nah.)

If you can get past the fact that it’s 30 FPS (or emulate with a 60 FPS mod), Samus Returns really is a proto-Dread. I’m having a fantastic time with it This is the turnaround I always hope to have when I replay Spirit Tracks (but never actually do)

Metal Gear Solid because I think my mom thought the ESRB’s description of “mature sexual themes” meant it was porn or something

With $10 off the standard edition, I don’t think I can justify the special edition for double the cost

Okay, I have turned around on Samus Returns. I played through it once at launch, tried to revisit it a few times and it never took. I’m not sure if it’s the fact that I’m emulating at 60 FPS or just that I’m actually giving it more time, but I am truly enjoying it probably for the first time ever.

As I am wont to do, I started replaying the Metroid series because a new one was announced. Usually I play AM2R because I wasn’t a fan of the 3DS remake of Metroid II but I’m giving it another shot on the Retroid Pocket Nova in higher res with a 60 FPS patch and… it’s growing on me

Watched the Ocarina direct again and I’m liking it more. Could just be YouTube compression but I think Link looks better in motion than the renders.

This is my biggest issue with what they showed today, why do Link’s boots and belts and gloves all need weird patterns on them

Chris Dunn @echris.online · 08/09/2026
I am decidedly mixed on the Ocarina of Time remake. I was hoping for something less faithful and more “reimagining”, but I’m sure it will play great. A lot of the graphics look great but some of it looks overly detailed? I like the idea of texturing Link’s tunic but it’s maybe a bit much

I replayed Symphony of the Night and it rules. I think it’s incredibly impressive that a game has a completely hidden gigantic section of the game, not unlike what Silksong did with act 3 (except SOTN came out nearly 30 years ago in 1997).

It is absolutely WILD how Celeste has a series of secret unlockable levels that reveal hidden game mechanics that have been possible all along. And then once you complete them there is ANOTHER set of hidden levels that do the same thing

Started playing a Zelda II romhack called “The Adventure of Mario” and it’s surprisingly good? It’s Zelda II but you play as Mario including running, the jump physics, and various spells/items act as power-ups from Mario games. It’s wild but fun

I forgot how fucking GOOD Celeste is. It is absolutely immaculately designed. And while I don’t think everyone should do the optional extra hard challenges, they really give me an appreciation for how well designed the game really is. Anyway, onto the C-Sides
