I read dozens of reports every year in my work for a college's DS office. In my opinion, reports *should* contain certain basic elements for the fee that families are paying, but my experience is that many don't.  Find out what should be in *any* report you pay for: bit.ly/LDBlog113x
…what separates a basic report from a detailed one worthy of the expense is the amount of detail that the evaluator includes on top of this basic framework." Picture of Elizabeth C. Ask your student if they've done all of these things. If not, they need to do this *now* because - again – DS doesn’t have to rush their processes due to students’ delay.
100
Elizabeth C. Hamblet, LD Advisory @echamblet.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
If they did, they likely were reminded to *communicate personally* with professors about their approved accommodations, not just send along the notification from DS.
100
Elizabeth C. Hamblet, LD Advisory @echamblet.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
Students continuing at the same college they attended last year should have contacted their DS coordinator to request accommodations already. (Many colleges require them to do this each term.)
100
Elizabeth C. Hamblet, LD Advisory @echamblet.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
Plus, some colleges require students to submit forms *2 weeks* ahead for any exam where they want to use accommodations. It's not DS's job to know when students have exams & make arrangements without students' participation. And DS doesn't have to rush if student have waited to register.
100
Elizabeth C. Hamblet, LD Advisory @echamblet.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
The longer they wait, the less likely it is DS will have their review completed & accommodations approved (if they're found eligible) before midterms. (This can take 2-3 weeks & DS isn’t required to rush their review; students are responsible for making requests in a timely manner.)

🧵 It's October 1st - now's a good time to check in with your freshman, transfer student, or student with a newly-identified/acquired disability to make sure they registered with their college's disability services office (DS).

The tester should seek information from teachers. I know some parents don't like this, but it's important to include what they're seeing. If the parent and student report a student isn't finishing tests, it lends credibility if the teachers say the same thing.

Elizabeth C. Hamblet, LD Advisory @echamblet.bsky.social · 20/09/2026
I read a lot of *long* reports; many aren't any better than briefer ones. All they do is present generic information about the tests and scores, rather than analyzing the results and tying these to students' *actual academic performance,* as seen in grades they've seen on transcripts.

Re: returning to whoever did the previous testing - it won't matter to the college. What *is* important is that the person you choose does a *good job.* 👆

With regard to the poster's use of "neuropsych" - there's a lot of misinformation about this, too. people use this interchangeably with "psycho-educational evaluation." I've even seen pros use one term or the either when talking about the same tests, so I wouldn't get caught up on the terminology.
100
Elizabeth C. Hamblet, LD Advisory @echamblet.bsky.social · 20/09/2026
There are no “rules” about this. Colleges are allowed to set their own requirements for how old testing can be. What matters is what testing *the college your student will attend* requires. Students need to look at the  requirements for each college on their list.
100
Elizabeth C. Hamblet, LD Advisory @echamblet.bsky.social · 20/09/2026
👆Contrary to popular myth, it’s not true that by law colleges require testing to be 3 years old or fewer.   Some colleges require testing to be 3 years old. Others allow it to be older, though they may set a limit on that. For instance, they might not accept testing done in second grade.
