Adam @eblueaxe.bsky.social · 01/10/2026Not sure it's Erik... but we may have some news on the number of viking burials in Cumbria coming soon.... 110
Adam @eblueaxe.bsky.social · 30/09/2026Myself and the team have clocked up a lot of hours putting this together over the last month. Come along to one of our venues and see for yourself some of the amazing evidence we have found! 131
Adam @eblueaxe.bsky.social · 19/09/2026Casting today at Govan; a very busy day, with some wonderful and very engaged visitors; over 1000 I hear! 0101
Adam @eblueaxe.bsky.social · 09/09/2026The community team and myself and my graphics colleagues have been working hard to get this ready for you all, so we are excited to bring it to you! A museum whilst the field work is still live! #archaeology 062
Adam @eblueaxe.bsky.social · 09/09/2026We will be back at Govan in a couple of weeks time for an amazing two day event! We have a huge early medieval textiles display, weapons, and high status object of the period, and some glass bead making and casting demonstrations, alongside some have a go textile crafts and games! 076
Adam @eblueaxe.bsky.social · 07/09/2026Amazing stuff! One day I will finish the house enough to make space to hold some epic sized pottery, then I may need you to make me one of the similarly sized large Thetford ware vessels! 010
Adam @eblueaxe.bsky.social · 07/09/2026A lot of the internet is unusable now for this sort of thing, outside of just visiting specific websites. Do you know about the Norwegian fotoportal on the museum website? 110

Adam @eblueaxe.bsky.social · 20/07/2026This weekend I had a go at enamelling. Not done this before, and quite surprised how easy it was! #experimentalarchaeology #crafts 093
Adam @eblueaxe.bsky.social · 17/07/2026Possibly; I think some of them get to us by the public talks and events we do, or appearing in company social media, and then guess as we all have formulaic emails these days for businesses and departments! 010
Adam @eblueaxe.bsky.social · 17/07/2026I've always worked in developer funded archaeology, and I get lots from local theory crafters from mild to right out there. It's ranged from Aztec designs in Heysham chapel, to being accused of faking evidence for the vikings in the north west and all sorts. 140
Adam @eblueaxe.bsky.social · 08/07/2026I have to code working, but I am getting check out error; any advice on who to contact? Tried guest and making a profile and also two different cards, all lead me to this screen? 100
Adam @eblueaxe.bsky.social · 07/07/2026I'm lucky enough to create videos as part of our work at @oxfordarchaeology.bsky.social particularly on the A66 project in Cumbria. We found an amazing site which we currently believe to be an #earlymedieval farmstead. Adam @eblueaxe.bsky.social · 04/07/2026Thanks; this is what you get. I've tried emptying the cache and refreshing etc, still does it. 000
Adam @eblueaxe.bsky.social · 03/07/2026This is still not working at the websites smaller discount overides the code; any idea on when/if this will be fixed? Cheers 100
Adam @eblueaxe.bsky.social · 25/06/2026Finished my Cumwhitton grave 5 Seax and sheath too; fits the evidence we have, and gaps filled in a reasonably period apropriate way! #viking #archaeology 130
Adam @eblueaxe.bsky.social · 22/06/2026That's the world isn't it? Despite being some of the hardest capitalist constructs McDonalds and Coca Cola extol some of the hardest principles of the left; it's affordable and everyone gets the same quality no matter how much money you have. 000
Adam @eblueaxe.bsky.social · 21/06/2026So finished engraving this chapel for a Seax sheath; as said previously; totally made up to try and plug *probable* holes in evidence, but who knows if they looked like this? The design is trewiddle style, and motifs adapted from two regional examples which are also on my sword. #livinghistory 050
Adam @eblueaxe.bsky.social · 20/06/2026Sometimes to try and recreate 'the whole' living history literally ends up having to make stuff up, or risk blank holes or anachronisms. This seax and sheath has been an exercise in that. It's pretty confident in the elements, but very few actually exist and intact and secure finds! #livinghistory 050
Adam @eblueaxe.bsky.social · 15/06/2026Bit of progress on the Cumwhitton 5 Seax sheath and several wooden cores from my sword scabbards. I don't think I did my trigger thumb much good though! 070

Adam @eblueaxe.bsky.social · 27/05/2026They would be horrifically expensive, but as these are both mine you have been saved the quandary! To be honest, I am not sure I could afford to buy them if I didn't make parts of them; a sobering thought! 000
Adam @eblueaxe.bsky.social · 27/05/2026The Anglo-Saxon one is a bone handle with inhabited vinescroll from the Victoria and Albert Museum, to which I have fitted a blade and horn stoppers. For it I have used inhabited vinescroll motifs; mostly from Cumbria or Northumbria. Adapting motifs is difficult but sometimes necessary. #archaeology 131
Adam @eblueaxe.bsky.social · 27/05/2026Recently I've been looking at making sheaths for two Seaxes; one a copy of a blade and silver inlaid horn handle from Cumwhitton Grave 5. I've used a tidied up version of a sheath from York for Cumwhitton, as the interlace seems most appropriate for the site and cultural links. #archaeology 151

Adam @eblueaxe.bsky.social · 08/03/2026Got to see these beauties from Halton today! Ought to be in Lancaster museum by rights, but ofc it belongs to the BM, but it is temporarily on loan to the Museum of Liverpool until the end of the month, with some other excellent highlights of early medieval hoards from the North West! #archaeology 160
Adam @eblueaxe.bsky.social · 26/02/2026I think that's all this is about right? As as craftspeople or specialists with engage with each other, we gain an insight into technique and can keep an eye out for it. Just today a colleague shared a lead sword pommel model with me, after I'd had this conversation last year with them! 120
Adam @eblueaxe.bsky.social · 26/02/2026Absolutely; object types/form/function change through periods and crafts people are of course they're using techniques most appropriate for them. There even seem to be workshops making certain objects in certain ways in vogue; sheet metalwork in 8-9th century Ireland for example! 120
Adam @eblueaxe.bsky.social · 26/02/2026Depends; mostly solid but I do think some of the multi-part moulds for hollow cast objects maybe for making a white metal master to create a breakable mould with the higher temperature required for other metals. Again it's difficult talking generalities as it doesn't apply to all periods/topics 130
Adam @eblueaxe.bsky.social · 26/02/2026Yes I agree. Or at least in the areas I've studied casting is a very primitive and primary part of the process. Most of the work being done by drawing out and sheet work, incision and graving and embossing etc on top, particularly early medieval insular belts horn fittings and ringed pins 110
