UPDATE: Fishtank/As Seen On is very explicit about the 93 Canal St store being livestreamed. There is a sign on the entrance warning people of the fact, and a sandwich board outside alluding to it.

Plans are often kept hidden from the public, but we got information on them! The convention center is not in the cards right now for ANE, but it is where they hope to end up.

The convention projects that it can afford some space in the convention center if the convention grows to at least 10,000 people. As long as the convention keeps growing, which is all but guaranteed, moving in there is the long-term plan. In the intermediate-term, the availability of the convention center and the Westin availability still need to align, whose schedules may be already booked with events a few years in the future.

The convention doubled in attendance since it moved in to the Westin, but hasn't expanded at all during that time, which explains why it felt so crowded!

This convention, like all furry conventions, has surged in popularity since Covid. What began with 757 people in 2015 has grown nearly tenfold, and is the sixth largest furry convention in the world, according to WikiFur. Even from last year, it’s grown by 26%, but the space hasn’t expanded since ANE moved into its current venue—the Westin Boston Seaport Hotel—three years ago. Unsurprisingly, overcrowding was a big talk at the convention.

One attendee registered their badge to say “This town is big enough for all of us :3”, riffing on the Western theme. “Definitely in hindsight I do not feel like it is big enough for all of us,” the attendee reflected after I pointed it out.

When I wrote that the con will have to get creative for line management, one of those things apparently includes moving the sponsor and above badge pickup line into this upstairs lobby area for extra space. (It’ll be strange but listen to line control staff.)
